Marketing Assistant

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Marketing Assistant supports the communications strategy for all programs at the Aurora Cultural Centre. The primary responsibilities are the coordination of all marketing collateral (digital and print), social media content management, event support, liaison with contracted designers, eblast and survey communications and email database upkeep.

This is an in-person position, with office hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday to Friday. As the position supports all events at the Centre, the incumbent will be asked to flex their schedule to work occasional evenings, weekends, start early, stay late as required. Flexibility on the work hours will accommodate this requirement. Pre-approved periods of overtime may be required. Must be comfortable working alone. Full time employment.

The successful candidate will possess experience in arts marketing, social media content creation and management, elementary graphic design knowledge, and the coordination of print and digital marketing assets. Experience working with contracted staff including designers, and video creation for socials is an asset. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, attention to copywriting, aware of trends in graphic design, a generous and compassionate team member, and skilled in handling administrative tasks round out the ideal qualities required for this role.

Context and Summary

The Aurora Cultural Centre operates out of a restored 1886 schoolhouse within the newly-opened Aurora Town Square cultural hub. The Centre is home to four purpose-built professional galleries, a full season of professional performing arts, year-round educational programs for children, youth and adults and a fund development department.

Job Description

Guided by the Aurora Cultural Centre’s current vision and mandate, history, and a need to meet programming in a diversity of genres and to all age groups, the Communications Manager is responsible for the internal and external brand of the Centre and is supported by the Marketing Assistant. The communications strategy supports the three main pillars of the Aurora Cultural Centre: Gallery, Education and Performing Arts programming. In addition, Communications supports all fundraising, internal and external brand communications, crisis and issues management, reporting supports for the Executive Director and Board. The role works with the Digital Services Specialist to support information flow to the website.

As with all positions at the Centre, the Marketing Assistant will be required to be flexible and punctual. This position will require management of multiple projects simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines, and work as part of a team. The Marketing Assistant will be liaising with various members of the staff team on a variety of projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Primary Responsibilities

  • digital production coordination of marketing assets for socials, website assets
  • organic and paid social media and content management strategy of the Centre’s social media channels in collaboration with the program managers (primarily IG & FB); report on social media metrics for measurement and benchmarking
  • print project and production coordination of marketing collateral assets for all programs, including brochures, reports, event house programs, sponsorship signage and reports, banners, postcards, flyers, posters, mailing pieces, etc.
  • event support including active social media engagement during and following events in all departments
  • eblast creation and dissemination (Constant Contact)
  • creation and dissemination of post-event digital surveys, and data aggregation
  • copywriting and proofing to ensure accuracy and consistent brand identity
  • liaison with Digital Services Specialist to provide clear and accurate program copy and messaging
  • staff recruitment campaign coordination
  • photo documentation and storage
  • upkeep of email database; adding new subscribers, cleaning up and purging old records e-mail subscribers into email connection database
  • invoice coding/documentation of marketing collateral
  • other duties as required to support communications.

The staff of the Centre work in a team atmosphere and as such all employees may be expected to step beyond what is regularly thought of as their own duties to assist members of the team as required.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 2 - 3 years Community College Degree/Diploma in Arts Marketing, Graphic Design, or Project Management required.
  • Minimum 1-3 years' experience in a previous related role; experience in complementary arts fields welcomed. If you can connect your experience to the role, we welcome your application.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $35,000 - $38,000. Upon successful completion of a 3-month probation period, the successful candidate will also participate in a full suite of employee benefits including: group medical and dental benefits, an Employee Assistance Program, an employer RRSP contribution, paid personal days, paid vacation days, paid time off for 14 recognized holidays, and professional development opportunities.
