What’s YESAB?

The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) is an independent body established under the Umbrella Final Agreement and YESAA legislation in 2003. YESAB conducts environmental and socio-economic assessments of projects before they are approved by the governing body. Our purpose is to conduct neutral, timely, efficient, and effective environmental and socio-economic assessments in the Yukon. 


Position Summary:

YESAB is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Student Assessment Officer to join our team for the summer months. This role provides a unique opportunity to learn about environmental assessment processes, contribute to project reviews, and develop professional skills in research, analysis, and communication.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in reviewing and summarizing project proposals and associated documentation.
  • Support the development of reports, briefing notes, and assessment recommendations.
  • Research environmental, socio-economic, and cultural considerations related to proposed projects.
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement activities, including drafting communications and meeting notes.
  • Provide administrative support to the Assessment team as required.


Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate from, a post-secondary program in Environmental Studies, Geography, Natural Resources, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Located in the Yukon.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Interest in environmental assessment and sustainable development.
