At Xanadu, we are learners, innovators, researchers, collaborators, and problem solvers. We are creating something that has never been built before. Few people in their life will be able to be a part of something like this, where if we are successful, the technologies we develop will solve some of the world’s most challenging problems, and literally change the world. That is something to be excited about!

Your Role and Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful execution of a key Xanadu business activity: the generation and management of our patents and other intellectual property assets. Our company has a team of more than 50 Ph.D. level scientists and engineers who are working hard to design and build the future of quantum computing and communications technologies. Capturing and protecting their work in a robust patent portfolio is crucial to the long term success of the company. Helping to build our IP and patent portfolio represents a unique opportunity for the right individual, who is committed to a career as an IP professional, to take part in, and help shape a major technology revolution.

IP Generation and Management:

  • Interview inventors, assist them with completing disclosure forms, and capture their innovations (software, electronics, photonics, etc.)  in high quality, draft patent specifications and figures.
  • Build a robust patent filing and management process, using the latest and best available tools and methods for a growing IP portfolio.
  • Potentially supervise interns or students to assist with data management.
  • Work with our IP team, outside counsel and inventors to process the required forms and paperwork for patent and trademark filings.
  • Work with teammates in the finance department to ensure the accuracy and timely payment of all professional and maintenance fees for IP services.

IP Strategy & Research:

  • Analyze the IP (patent) landscape in quantum technologies, creating maps and landscapes to share with the team.
  • Identify key strategic opportunities and threats for Xanadu in the patent landscape.
  • Search and catalogue available IP which may be of interest to us.
  • Use the latest strategies and trends in broader technology industries and seek opportunities to apply the learnings to Xanadu.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong interest to build a career as an IP professional.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Program in Engineering, Physics, Comp. Sci or related field.
  • Ph.D. level and research experience strongly preferred in a high technology field, preferably related to quantum physics, such as electronics, optics, communications, computer hardware and networking.
  • Prior work with patents and intellectual property is a requirement, experience drafting for the U.S. PTO is a definite plus.
  • Able to work comfortably with many simultaneous projects of competing priorities and communicate their status on a timely basis to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to read and write highly technical documents in English, and clearly summarize scientific details for a less technical audience.
  • Driven by “getting things done”, and a desire for excellence in your work.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and thoroughness are essential.
