Youth Worker - Summer Student

At Willow Lake Métis Nation, you have the opportunity to work alongside a passionate and dedicated team in creating a sustainable future for the Nation and its citizens.

Reporting to the Administrator, the Youth Worker Summer Student will play a critical role in supporting the Willow Lake Métis Nation (WLMN) by performing labor-related tasks for citizens and community Elders and assisting with community events. These positions will provide valuable hands-on experience while fostering connections within the community.  

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist with projects, special events, and community activities as needed.
  • Support community members and Elders by providing assistance with tasks and general labor.
  • Perform yard work and maintenance to aid Elders and citizens.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully, ensuring the needs of Elders and community members are understood and met.
  • Work collaboratively with WLMN staff and fellow summer students to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Perform duties at the Willow Lake Métis Farm
  • Provide direct assistance to citizens, responding to their requests.
  • Coordinate with WLMN staff and engage with community visitors.
  • Maintain a clean and organized office and work environment.
  • Perform general labor duties as required.
  • Engage with attendees at community events to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Utilize phone and communication tools to manage and complete assigned tasks effectively.
  • Must prioritize safety and comply with the WLMN Health and Safety Manual and OHS regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong communication & teamwork – Engage professionally with Elders, community members, and staff
  • Time management & organization – Prioritize and complete tasks efficiently
  • Physical stamina – Comfortable with general labor and outdoor tasks.
  • Interpersonal skills – Friendly, adaptable, and able to create a welcoming environment
  • Basic tech skills – Ability to use phone and communication tools
  • Qualifications: Must be 15+ years old; prior community service or labor experience is an asset.
  • Flexible (as some events take place in the evenings, weekends, or holidays)

Certificate/Training Requirements: Strong communication and active listening skills

Location: Anzac, Alberta

Hours of Work: 32 hours per week for 8 weeks: July 2 – August 30, 2026

Pay: $17/hour
