Opportunity:

 

Reporting to the Team Lead at the Tri-Cities location, the Child Minder role provides quality childcare for children 0 – 12 years while their parents/caregivers are attending group programs. Parents/caregivers will be in the same building. Groups are held on an irregular (i.e.: not ongoing) schedule, to meet fluctuating client needs. Program implementation depends on securing funding. Most programs will run during the day Monday to Friday during school hours with some evenings and weekends in the Tri-Cities and Ridge Meadows communities. However, there may be some opportunities to take shifts in our Vancouver Coastal locations as well.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide a safe and positive environment for children whose parents are attending groups.
  • Supervise children and manage challenging behavior in a positive way.
  • Set up play space with toys and activities appropriate to the age and developmental stage of the children.
  • Understand appropriate games and activities for children of 0 – 12.
  • As appropriate, communicate regularly with co-workers and the parent or caregiver about children’s behavior, needs or any other concerns.
  • Provide appropriate age guidance in a positive manner.
  • Prepare and provide light meals or snacks appropriate to the health/allergy information, age and developmental stage of the children.
  • Supports in setting up tables and child-minding space.
  • Able to carry out the physical duties of setting up program space, cleaning, picking up children. Able to carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Tidies playroom during/after childcare times, ensuring toys are clean and disinfected on a regular basis. Keeps program facilities and equipment safe and clean, reporting any repairs and concerns to senior staff.       
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor.

 

Skills You Bring:

 

  • One (1) year recent related experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12, plus enrolment in Early Childhood Education Certificate program or completing work experience required for licensing or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Desire to be part of a team of diverse individuals.
  • Self-motivated with great problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality.
  • Pass a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable persons
  • A second language is considered an asset
  • Food Safe is an asset.
