Build a Safer Future — On Land and On Water
At Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd. (VanPile), safety isn’t just a requirement—it’s a core value that drives how we work, how we lead, and how we deliver some of the most complex marine and heavy civil construction projects in the region.
We’re looking for an experienced, motivated Safety Advisor who thrives in the field, leads by example, and is passionate about making real impact on active worksites. If you enjoy being hands‑on, working alongside crews, and turning safety principles into daily practice, this role is for you.
Your Role & Impact
As a Safety Advisor, you’ll be at the heart of our operations—supporting crews, collaborating with project teams, and advancing a proactive, engaged safety culture across our projects. You’ll provide on‑site leadership, coach safe work behaviours, and ensure regulatory and COR compliance while supporting the safe and successful execution of our work.
This role blends planning, people, and presence in the field, offering you the opportunity to influence safety where it truly matters.
What You’ll Do
Lead Safety Where the Work Happens
- Support and continuously improve VanPile’s HSE programs, procedures, and initiatives
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, BCCSA COR, company standards, and project‑specific requirements
- Develop and maintain safety documentation, including project safety plans, hazard assessments, and safe work plans
Be a Trusted Safety Partner on Site
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety observations
- Identify hazards, assess risks, and work with teams to implement practical controls
- Provide hands‑on coaching and guidance to crews and supervisors
- Support the planning and execution of new and high‑risk work activities
Engage, Educate & Empower
- Deliver site orientations, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
- Actively promote a positive, collaborative safety culture where everyone is involved and accountable
Investigate, Learn & Improve
- Assist with incident, near‑miss, and hazard investigations, including root cause analysis
- Prepare clear reports and recommend corrective and preventative actions
- Track and analyze safety metrics, reporting trends and insights to leadership
Collaborate Across Teams
- Serve as a key point of contact for safety‑related concerns on site
- Communicate issues that may impact schedule, cost, or operations
- Work closely with project teams, HSE professionals, and subcontractors to resolve safety challenges
What You Bring
- 7–10+ years of hands‑on field safety experience, ideally in marine, heavy civil, or industrial construction
- Post‑secondary education or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent experience)
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and construction safety practices
- Experience working within a COR‑certified safety management system
Skills That Set You Apart
- Natural ability to influence, coach, and build trust in the field
- Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and reliable
- Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with sound judgment
- Comfortable working in fast‑paced, changing project environments
- Willing to work shifts, non‑standard hours, and travel as required
- Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle
Certifications (Preferred or Required)
- Safety designation such as CRSP, RCSO, CHSC, or actively working toward certification
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 or 3 (or willingness to obtain)
- BCCSA COR internal auditor experience is an asset
Salary: $90 - $120k per annum
The actual salary offered to the successful candidate will be determined based on job‑related factors including relevant experience, years of experience, qualifications, internal equity, and Carlson Construction Group’s compensation policy.
