Are you a detail-oriented financial professional with a passion for project management? We are seeking a dynamic Project Accountant to join our team! In this role, you will work closely with our project team and finance department, providing crucial insights into the financial health of our projects. Your expertise will be key in evaluating construction job costs, data reporting and analysis, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and revenue recognition.

Department: Finance and Administration
Location Base: North Vancouver, B.C. (with occasional travel to northern B.C (Prince Rupert.)
Reports To: Group Controller


Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Setup: Lead the coordination of job setup in Acumatica upon project award, including cost codes, categories, budgets, and all necessary job information.
  • Forecast Reviews: Conduct project forecast reviews using historical and trending data to validate forecasts, ensuring adherence to company standards for cost and revenue reporting.
  • Daily Accounting Oversight: Manage daily accounting tasks, including labor timesheets, equipment hours, salary overheads, and payables.
  • Field Operations Learning: Show eagerness to understand field operations to better communicate financial reports and data.
  • Support Operations Team: Assist with decision-making by identifying, quantifying, and communicating financial risks and opportunities.
  • Client Invoicing/Billing: Prepare client time and materials invoicing, manage accounts receivable and revenue, and review project cash flow projections bi-weekly.
  • Contract Knowledge: Maintain knowledge of prime contracts and change orders, including insurance, taxes, payment terms, and bonding requirements.
  • Internal Controls: Recommend and follow proper internal controls, acting as the main contact for internal and external financial audits.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote continuous improvement and positive change within the organization.
  • Team Cohesion: Build trust and credibility with the Operations team to enhance cohesion and communication.
  • Customer Service: Exhibit excellent customer service skills, offering help with a positive attitude and showing gratitude when receiving assistance.


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project financial/data analysis.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Acumatica is an asset.
  • Experience with Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, and other key Excel functions is beneficial.
  • Construction and job costing experience is highly valued; marine construction experience is not required.

Salary: $70 - $90k per annum
