Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd (Vanpile), a multi-discipline construction company, is one of the largest marine general contractors in Canada. Since 1913, our employees have built many of the major marine facilities along the coastline and inland waters of British Columbia. Vanpile is a local family-owned and operated company.

As a member of the Finance Team, the Accountant records, reports and analyzes the financial and operating information of Vanpile through accepted accounting practices. The Accountant works closely with the Controller & Project Accounting Supervisor to prepare external and internal reporting requirements.

We are looking for a motivated individual who is committed to growing their professional career at Vanpile while gaining valuable knowledge and experience through a variety of assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Records Accounts Receivable and Accounts payable invoices
  • Records Cashbook transactions
  • Records intercompany transactions
  • Records prepayment transactions
  • Prepares, reconciles and analyzes accounts with appropriate working papers and supporting documentation for all general ledger accounts
  • Reconciles bank statements
  • Prepares adjustments resulting from the account reconciliation and analysis
  • Prepares and books monthly journal entries and accruals
  • Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets schedules
  • Evaluates & assess reasonableness of key general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
  • Provides monthly variance analysis against prior periods and budget
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements
  • Assist with annual external audit queries
  • Assist in the Preparation of audit and tax information
  • Preparation of tax schedules and returns ( GST, PST etc)
  • Assists in ad-hoc projects and/or coverage of other team member tasks as required
  • Assists in preparation and compilation of reporting packages for the senior management
  • Supports other departments with accounting related queries
  • Runs weekly and monthly reports
  • Performs other duties as required


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • Minimum 4 years of general accounting experience with exposure to AP and Payroll
  • Experience in preparing working papers and lead sheets
  • Knowledge of account reconciliations and resolution of reconciling items
  • Understanding of job costing principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook and Excel)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
