Position Summary

The Program Assistant provides hands-on support across day-to-day programming and operations based on the organization’s needs. This is a highly flexible, team-focused role that requires adaptability and a willingness to step in wherever needed. While this role can span a variety of programs, it will be primarily focused on supporting Community Kitchen operations.

Hours and Location

This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week), permanent position.

Standard office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, however earlier, later, and/or weekend shifts may be required for this role, with advance notice given.

This position is based in Cannington, Ontario. There is no remote work or hybrid work option available for this position.


Tasks and Duties

Program Assistance

  • Preparing and processing food in large batches, including cooking, baking, pickling, and preserving. This includes meals and products for programs such as weekly community lunches (~100+ servings per lunch) and value-added items for Mobile Food Market like granola
  • Purchasing, receiving, restocking, and organizing inventory as needed
  • Reducing food waste through proper storage, handling, and use of ingredients, including processing edible surplus for future use
  • Supporting clients, customers, and community members accessing food, ensuring all programs are welcoming, respectful, dignified, and equitable
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of food literacy programs and camps for children and adults by helping foster an engaging and inclusive learning environment
  • Helping to keep spaces clean, safe, and well-organized
  • Ensuring food safety best practices are followed across all programs supported
  • Delivering administrative support for programs such as planning, scheduling, data entry, and expense submissions
  • Assisting with program outreach and promotion, including distributing materials and attending community events
  • Supervising and supporting volunteers involved in the program area being assisted

General Organizational Support

  • Promote a positive organizational culture through collaboration, respect, and teamwork, exemplifying TNDF’s mission, vision, and values
  • Participate in ongoing training and research to enhance knowledge and program innovation
  • Provide input on internal policies and process development in collaboration with other departments
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, team trainings, and community events
  • Maintain open communication and support among staff members
  • Perform additional duties and errands as assigned
