About us

Are you looking to invest your skills in pioneering and growing a climate organization with long term impact? This is an opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with our founders. TerraFixing is a Canadian leader in direct air carbon capture (DAC) technology that is backed by the government and industry. Having recently closed a SEED round, secured over $2.6M in grant funding (NRCan, SDTC etc), and signed a $10M commercial agreement, we are at a pivotal point of growth. Our mission is to scale and deploy our novel cold climate DAC technology to clean our atmosphere from humanity’s legacy CO2 emissions and accelerate global decarbonization. The foundation of any successful mission into a new frontier is always the team members. This is your opportunity to join a rapidly growing and impactful company that has solid long term plans and a great company culture.

Purpose of the role

As a Mechatronics Engineer, you will be designing, developing, testing, and overseeing mechanical and electrical developments for various projects and applications. The role requires an understanding of the differing approaches for design and development for both manufacturing and for prototyping.

Currently, TerraFixing has demonstrated a small-scale novel gas separation & purification process and system for direct air capture of carbon dioxide using novel adsorbent materials. We are now scaling up the technology and preparing for a demonstration project. Your work will include designing and creating small scale concept prototypes, and the engineering of larger units that will be housed in shipping containers. We face interesting engineering challenges due to novel designs & involved processes and thus, this role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges in a groundbreaking field. Overcoming these complex challenges will require someone who is comfortable tackling open ended problems, who loves to learn, and who challenges the status-quo.

Your Responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop mechanical and electrical systems. This includes the creation of new advanced product designs and layouts with SolidWorks, and installing and assembling process equipment based on technical specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Lead the building of the mechanical and electrical systems using techniques such as CMC, soldering, 3D printing, PCB making etc.
  • Analyze and verify system design requirements as it relates to mechanical and electrical design.
  • Provide mechanical design and sustaining engineering expertise to troubleshoot defects and achieve a more robust and producible product.
  • Participate in inspection and commissioning tests to verify correct assembly and operation of the equipment installed.
  • Participate in HazOp, FMEA and Risk assessment of the system design.
  • Identify, procure, and maintain tools required to perform duties.

  • 5+ years of engineering experience with design, prototyping, and fabrication processes.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience installing, assembling, and operating process equipment such as pumps, compressors, piping systems, heater, and common chemical process instrumentation.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing and design for prototyping.
  • Fluent working ability with 2D and 3D design software like Solidworks .
  • Technical knowledge of machine programming software (3D printing, CNC).
  • Team-oriented individual whose a capable problem-solver, with strong coordination skills, and understands conflict resolution.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
