Youth Worker (Canada Summer Jobs Program – Youth Aged 15 -30)

Status: Contract – 10 weeks

Hours of Work: 28 hours per week. You will occasionally be required to work outside of core hours and on weekends to support organization-wide events & programs.

Location: Participants must live in Hastings/Lennox/Addington region; role will be done remotely but occasional travel may be required.

The Students Commission of Canada (SCC) is a charitable organization that purposefully works with others to ensure that young people are valued, heard and their ideas for improving themselves, the lives of their peers and communities are put into action. We are the lead organization for the Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement (CEYE) which is a network of youth, organizations, and academics focused on generating evidence and best practices on youth engagement programs, initiatives, and interventions. CEYE has developed a youth engagement definition for the Canadian context as well as a comprehensive youth engagement framework. The SCC is grounded in our four pillars: Respect, Listen, Understand, Communicate™.

What is the opportunity?

We are looking for youth workers to help with the design and delivery of programs for young people in the Hastings/Lennox/Addington region. You will participate in training around youth-friendly practices and implement what is learned by supporting and facilitating various community-run programs for youth.

This role is available for young people aged 15 – 30 years old.

The SCC is a committed team, where everyone jumps in to help with other projects and tasks as required for the success of the organization and the betterment of young people’s lives.

About the Role

What will you do?

  • Design, deliver, and facilitate events and workshops in the Hastings/Lennox/Addington region
  • Outreach to recruit youth to participate in our programs and build our network
  • Help with planning for the #CanadaWeWant summit taking place in the Fall
  • Support work for our various funded projects including
  • Support #CanadaWeWant and national programming at a local level, including designing and refining program activities, evaluating program activities, and working with partner organizations to deliver program activities
  • Supporting individual youth to engage successfully in SCC youth programs

Key Competencies

What do you need to succeed?

  • A positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and try your hand at new things!
  • A “can-do” attitude, looking for potential solutions and ways that things can be done better.
  • A passion for youth engagement, and amplifying youth voice.
  • Experience with event planning nice-to-have but not required
  • Experience with G Suite (Google Docs) an asset but not required
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills. Looking for someone who believes that Respect, Listening, Understanding and Communication ™ (our Four Pillars) are inherently valuable to meaningful and lasting work.
