We are currently undergoing a global mental health epidemic. 1 in 5 Canadians suffer from mental illness annually wherein 60% are left untreated due to cost, access, or stigma. As a result, staggering costs are incurred by affected individuals and their employers.


Starling Minds’ mission is to make affordable and effective mental health care accessible to everyone. We sell our Workplace Mental Health Platform to organizations as an on-demand, 100% digital Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) solution so that there are minimal barriers for employees to access evidence-based support.


Core Responsibilities

  • Work with the Product and Therapy team to develop top-of-class digital Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, with vertical focus on Education, Healthcare, First Responders, and other industries with high rates of disability due to mental health issues
  • Edit and contribute to a large, existing body of work, as well as take part in the development of new therapy content
  • Work with other writers to maintain a consistent voice and tone throughout the product experience
  • Research user types and user needs for a growing list of verticals and occupations
  • Learn and develop User Experience (UX) and User Centred Design (UCD) techniques, skills, and methods to design digital therapy that delivers maximum values to the user
  • Build wireframes and prototypes of digital therapies
  • Build therapy decision-mapping trees on our platform
  • Test digital therapies in our apps, as well as participate in usability and therapy testing with user participants
  • Provide design documentation to be used by the Product, Marketing, Customer Success, Support, Training, Sales, and Management teams
  • Build and maintain a content repository to be used in a dynamic therapeutics application that serves content based on user needs and preferences
  • Work with translators and localization teams to extend the product and online experiences to global markets

Skills and Requirements

  • Certificate, degree, or diploma program in Adult Learning, Instructional Design, or Education.
  • Expert writer with a track record of bringing a consistent voice and tone to content
  • You are a creative team player who takes joy in fostering the ideas of others, as well as contributing innovative ideas and solutions
  • You’re passionate about your craft
  • You’re passionate about developing mental health solutions
  • Proven experience creating content development guides and standards
  • Proven ability to develop effective learning materials
  • Proven ability to design and develop instructional materials and technical documentation for large complex systems
  • Experience integrating adult education concepts and learning approaches to online environments
  • Excellent oral communication, and writing skills
  • Strong planning, organization, and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of evaluation and assessment methodologies
  • Online portfolio, case studies, or digital samples of your work

Nice to haves

  • Experience or background in Psychology, counselling, or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
  • Experience in technical writing
  • Experience with coding and logical thinking
  • Fluent in French, Quebecois French a plus

Job Details

  • Reports to: VP Product
  • Salary $70,000+, depending on experience
  • Full time permanent position (40 hours/week)
  • Due to COVID-19 we are currently working remotely. However, Starling Minds is located in Vancouver, BC (Gastown neighbourhood)
