Job Summary
The Intermediate Process Engineer (P.Eng.) will provide sustainable capital and operational process engineering support to clients with a focus on improvements within existing facilities, including but not limited to conceptual design of improvement ideas, replacement of existing equipment, and design and implementation of new capital projects. The pace of work is fast and changes from day to day, which requires an agile person who can manage and execute many activities simultaneously in a challenging environment. Education & Qualifications
- Graduate of a recognized university with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical/Process Engineering discipline, or equivalent
- Registered as a P.Eng. in good standing with APEGA.
- Preference will be given to a candidate at least 5 years of progressive process engineering experience, however team fit is most important
- Experience with Process Hazard Analysis methodology (i.e. HAZOP, What-if)
- Experience developing drawings including P&IDs, process PFDs, and material balances
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents
- Site/field based industrial work experience is considered an asset
- Experience in developing process studies, operating philosophies and/or control narratives is considered an asset
- Experience with API and ASME codes for overpressure protection device sizing, developing overpressure risk assessments and/or completing PSV sizing analyses is considered an asset
Responsibilities
- Execute process engineering activities such as: the preparation of studies, designs, and detailed engineering for various projects including the development of process design criteria; troubleshooting; preparation of engineering calculations, analyses and studies; development of process simulations, PFDs and P&IDs, input to LDTs, equipment sizing and specifications, datasheets; and report writing.
- Support the team to develop and direct project plans which maintain technical excellence, budget, schedule and contractual requirements.
- Take a lead role in multi-discipline projects, including developing deliverables from concept through calculations and detailed design, and final / stamped issue.
- Actively engage directly with clients to understand their requirements and expectations and deliver top quality solutions.
- Complete process equipment calculations and simulations.
- Communicate with vendors and assist with procurement as needed.
- Manage project budgets ensuring work is completed according to the defined contractual scope and execution strategy.
- Provide additional support as needed including collaborating with other disciplines (mechanical, instrumentation, electrical, structural) in order to deliver well-rounded solutions to clients.
- Support business development activities such as liaising with clients as a representative of Local and identifying, developing, and maintaining professional connections to enhance and maintain business for the company.
- Identify potential project opportunities and work with the Local team to grow the business.
- Report to the Process Engineering Lead on progress of work.
- Review and issue drawings and calculations, following Local standards and procedures.
- Demonstrate commitment to safety and quality.
- Travel to the field for project scoping, verification, construction support and meeting with clients as needed.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to more junior team members.

Position Conditions
- Hours of work per week may vary depending on available work and skillset of individual, but the intention is that this is a full-time position.
- Salary is commensurate with APEGA salary scale based on relevant experience.
- Job is typically performed in an office environment.
- Site travel may be required depending on the project.
