Position: Summer Discovery Program Activity Coordinator- 9-week contract position

Location: Newton and Community

Hours: 30 hours per week , Monday-Friday, hours generally fall between 8:30-5 pm with some evenings or weekends required (2 Positions available)

Salary: $24.72

Start Date: Anticipated start June 29, 2026

 

We are looking for a Summer Program Activity Coordinator to join our Community Inclusion Team for a 9-week contracted position. The successful applicant MUST meet the criteria set out by the Government. This individual must be inclusive in their approaches, organized, and passionate about creating experiences and learning opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities.

Description of Position:

The position will require the following duties:

  • Plan weekly themed events and activities following a budget while considering the individuals participating (Zoo, parks, Tours, as examples)
  • Participate in and support events and activities
  • Assist individuals with developmental disabilities to participate in planned events and adapt activities to ensure inclusion and safety
  • Be skilled in thorough planning and communication with the team
  • Be energetic and positive
  • Provide dignified, respectful support to individuals

 

Reporting to: Lifeskills Assistant Managers and Program Coordinator

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships 
  • Coach and guide 
  • Aid and support  
  • Work as a collaborative team 

 

Program-specific Responsibilities:

  • Plan weekly themed activities
  • Activities to include community exploration opportunities and in-house events adapted for individuals with developmental disabilities


Physical Demands of Job: *may vary based on client needs

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing - 25%, Walking/Moving around - 50%, Sitting - 50%, Time spent outside - 25%, Recreational activities - 25%


Cognitive Demands of the Job:

Independent work - 75%, Task memorization - 75%, Changing priorities/deadlines - 75%, Writing/reading - 100%, Other: Computer related - 100%

  • Passionate about working with people and creating an inclusive environment

  • Enjoy planning events and activities
  • Can create a detailed plan, including a budget

 

To be eligible for this contract position, you must

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
