Commercial Solar Sales Project Developer

Solvest – Who We Are
Solvest was founded in the Yukon in 2015 and has become a leader in renewable energy across northern and remote regions. We design and deliver large-scale solar and battery storage projects built for challenging environments. Our work is built on long-term partnerships with communities, municipalities, and commercial clients where collaboration, trust, and shared outcomes matter. Our core values are Innovation, Trust, Empowerment, and Tenacity.
We are now bringing that same expertise to the Ontario commercial and industrial market.
The Opportunity
If you know the Ontario commercial solar market, have a network you can actually call, and are tired of working somewhere that caps your upside or buries you in process, keep reading.
We are growing our Ontario commercial team and we are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and close. You will originate and close commercial-scale solar and BESS opportunities with commercial, industrial, and municipal clients. You will report to the Chief Business Officer, own your pipeline, and close your own deals.
The work is complex project origination. You will navigate development cycles, build real trust across multiple stakeholders, and own the full cycle from first conversation through to contract signing and a clean handoff to the operations team, supported by Solvest's internal design and technical teams. You are backed by Solvest's internal technical/engineering, estimation, and proposal coordination teams. The support is real and it is fast. You spend your time developing business, not chasing internal approvals.
This is a remote, Ontario-based position, with access to our Cobourg office for those in proximity.
Note: This role is focused on consultative, complex project development in the commercial and industrial energy market. Candidates with experience limited to software, SaaS, short-cycle product sales, or residential solar are unlikely to be a strong fit.
Employment Status: Permanent Full Time. 4-day work week (36 hours).
Compensation:
- Base Salary: $90,000 to $115,000
- Commission: $0.03 per watt DC on closed projects
- Annual Target: 5 MWdc
- The commission is uncapped. If you outperform, you get paid for it.
Benefits: Employer-paid comprehensive health benefits after 3 months (including unlimited virtual health care, mental health care, and virtual pharmacy through Dialogue); paid vacation; paid sick days; and more.
What We Offer
- A people-focused workplace where our employees are the centre of our culture.
- A strong team that invests in each other.
- A 4-day work week (36 hours).
- Employer-paid health benefits.
- Open book financials across the company. You will know exactly what the company looks like before you sign, and after.
Key Responsibilities
- Close Deals: Find and close high-value commercial and industrial solar opportunities across Ontario. You develop your own pipeline and you close incoming leads from existing sources.
- Use Your Network: Get in front of commercial clients and municipal partners using the relationships you have already built. That network is part of why we want you.
- Move Fast: Push leads through the pipeline with urgency. Work with our internal technical, estimation, and proposal coordination team members to get strong proposals out quickly.
- Own the Relationship: You are equally comfortable in a boardroom and on a job site. Own everything from first contact through to contract and handoff.
- CRM Discipline: Keep a tight, accurate pipeline in our CRM. Forecasting matters here.
Performance Expectations
We are paying a strong base salary and we expect strong results to go with it. There is no long runway here. You will be expected to:
- Build your own prospecting pipeline from day one in addition to working existing and warm leads.
- Close incoming leads in parallel.
- Ramp quickly.
- Hit or exceed 5 MWdc annually.
What we measure:
- Pipeline Velocity: How fast are you moving high quality leads from first contact to handoff?
- Conversion Rate: Are qualified leads turning into active project developments?
- Proposal Turnaround: Are you getting compelling proposals out fast and winning?
- Closed Volume: MWdc closed annually. That is the number.
Who You Are
You know the Ontario commercial energy market. You understand interconnection, PPA structures, and the local regulatory environment, and you do not need someone to explain them to you. You have closed complex, multi-stakeholder deals and you know the difference between a pipeline and a wishlist.
You have a longstanding track record of hunting and closing projects in commercial solar, energy storage, or energy infrastructure. You can name them, size them, and tell us how you got there. You understand the economics of renewable energy for a commercial operator, a municipality, or an industrial client. You can walk an engineer through a system design and walk a CFO through an ROI model in the same afternoon. You are also genuinely interested in the technology itself. You can explain how it works, why the economics make sense for the client in front of you, and why it beats what the competition is offering. That credibility is hard to fake and it closes deals.
You are not looking for a job. You are looking for a platform. If you have been at a bigger company, grinding through layers of approval to close a deal you originated yourself, this is worth a conversation. At Solvest, your results are visible, your contribution is real, and the sky is the limit.
You go after it. You do not wait for leads to show up. You hold yourself accountable to the number.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of B2B project development or business development experience in solar, energy storage, energy infrastructure, construction, or a closely related field. A track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals is required.
- A deep understanding of the Ontario energy market, including interconnection processes, PPA structures, and the local regulatory environment.
- An existing network in the Ontario commercial or industrial energy sector is a significant advantage.
- You are able to ramp up quickly to be able to discuss solar and BESS concepts, ROI, and project economics without leaning on an engineer in the room.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and pipeline reporting.
- Strong communicator, written and verbal.
- Organized, self-motivated, and accountable.
- Willing to travel across Ontario as the role demands.
Additional Requirements
- Background check
- Driver's license with a clean abstract and minimum 3 years claims experience history
