Position Overview:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Tree, Shrub, and Perennial Sales Associate to join our team. The successful candidate will assist customers in selecting the right trees, shrubs, perennial plants and landscape supplies for their landscaping needs while providing expert advice on planting, care, and maintenance. This role involves customer service, plant care, merchandising, and maintaining the nursery area.

Position Details:

• Type: Seasonal, Full-Time
• Schedule: Days, Weekends, Evenings
• Location: Shelmerdine Garden Centre Ltd. (Must have own transportation—no bus service available)
• Combination of indoor retail and outdoor nursery work
• Physical work including lifting, watering, and moving plants
• Weekend and seasonal work will be required during peak gardening seasons

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Assist customers in selecting trees, shrubs, perennial plants and landscape supply product suitable for their landscaping projects
• Delivery to homes and commercial clients as needed utilizing the van and trailer
• Provide guidance on plant selection based on soil type, sunlight, climate, and design preferences
• Explain proper planting techniques, watering schedules, and ongoing plant care
• Use of POS system to create invoices for Customers 
• Maintain healthy plant inventory by watering, pruning, fertilizing, and monitoring plant health
• Receive, unload, and organize plant and product shipments from suppliers
• Label plants and maintain accurate pricing and product information
• Keep nursery sales areas and store front clean, organized, and visually appealing
• Help load plants and landscaping materials into customer vehicles
• Support seasonal promotions and merchandising displays
• Work with the landscaping and delivery teams to prepare plant orders
• Work with supply division for a smooth transition of customers looking for design and further technical assistance

What We’re Looking For:

• Interest in horticulture, gardening, or landscaping
• Strong customer service, communication & sales skills
• Ability to lift and move plants, soil bags, and gardening supplies (often up to 50 lbs)
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Basic knowledge of trees, shrubs, perennial plants and landscape supplies or willingness to learn
• Experience in garden centers, nurseries, or landscape supply stores
• Knowledge of plant identification and plant care
• Education or training in horticulture, landscaping, or related fields
