About Safe Haven Foundation

At Safe Haven Foundation, our mission is to help give Calgary's homeless and at-risk girls their future back.

We provide young women with a safe, stable, and supportive home where they can build healthy relationships, overcome challenges, continue their education, and develop the skills needed for independent living.

We believe that every young person deserves a place to feel safe, valued, encouraged, and supported.

Your Role: More Than a Support Worker

As a Live-In Support Coach, you'll play an important role in creating a positive, nurturing home environment where young women feel supported and empowered.

Reporting to the Program Director and working closely with our programming team, you'll provide guidance, encouragement, and practical day-to-day support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive home environment built on trust, respect, and healthy relationships.
  • Building meaningful connections with youth while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Supporting young women in developing practical life skills, including household routines, communication, problem-solving, and independent living.
  • Encouraging educational success, employment readiness, and participation in community activities.
  • Helping youth develop emotional regulation, confidence, and healthy decision-making skills.
  • Establishing fair and consistent household expectations while encouraging youth involvement and independence.
  • Supporting youth in attending appointments, recreational activities, school meetings, and community programs.
  • Maintaining positive communication with the programming team and participating in regular team and house meetings.
  • Responding calmly and appropriately to challenging situations, emergencies, or youth requiring additional support.
  • Supporting positive connections with families, natural supports, and other professionals when appropriate.
  • Helping maintain a clean, comfortable, and well-organized home.

You'll also provide occasional support to other youth within Safe Haven's programming, including during scheduled respite periods.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young people and understands the importance of patience, consistency, empathy, and encouragement.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • A minimum of two years of direct experience working with youth.
  • A diploma or degree in social work, human services, psychology, child and youth care, or a related field, although equivalent education and experience will be considered.
  • An understanding of youth development, trauma-informed approaches, and the challenges faced by vulnerable young people.
  • Familiarity with Housing First for Youth (HF4Y) and Family and Natural Supports (FNS) approaches, or a willingness to further develop your knowledge.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • The ability to remain calm, supportive, and professional in challenging situations.
  • A positive, approachable personality and a genuine commitment to helping young women succeed.
  • A reliable vehicle, current driver's abstract, and a minimum of $2 million in automobile liability insurance, as transportation of youth is part of the role.
  • The ability to assist with occasional light to moderate lifting during youth move-ins and move-outs.

Understanding the Live-In Arrangement

This is a unique live-in position rather than a traditional scheduled shift role.

You'll reside in the home and provide a consistent, supportive presence for the three young women living there. While there are no fixed daily working hours, you must be available to respond to the needs of the youth and the home as required.

Because of the nature of the role, any outside employment must take place during daytime hours and cannot conflict with evening, overnight, or weekend responsibilities.

You'll be supported by Safe Haven's broader programming team and will work collaboratively to ensure the young women receive the guidance and support they need.

Ready to Make a Difference?

If you're looking for meaningful work, enjoy supporting young people, and would welcome the opportunity to live in a comfortable Calgary home while making a positive impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and become part of a team helping young women build brighter, more independent futures.

Safe Haven Foundation is committed to creating a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace. We welcome applications from qualified candidates who are legally entitled to work in Canada.

We thank all applicants for their interest; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
