Rugby Ontario is actively searching for a dynamic and motivated individual who is passionate about the field of sport management, wants to apply their knowledge and experience, and support a vision of Rugby for All.

Reporting to the Partnerships & Events Coordinator and Leagues & Competitions Coordinator, the Competitions & Events Intern is a member of the Rugby Operations department. The position will focus on delivering key parts of Rugby Ontario’s new Strategic Plan. The Competitions & Events intern will assist Rugby Ontario in achieving the strategic objective to Advance Our Rugby Culture by assisting in the panning of Rugby Ontario’s keystone events and delivering competitions throughout the province. This position provides a critical and fundamental service to support Rugby Ontario’s community of Clubs.


Position Details:

· Unpaid Internship

· 240-560 Hours to be completed over the course of the internship

o NOTE: please indicate hours of availability in application.

· Hybrid work environment – remote four (4) days a week, in office minimum of one (1) day a week in the Rugby Ontario office if possible. (Office Address: Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre – 875 Morningside Ave, Toronto, ON)

· Some additional days, such as event days will require being onsite.


What you’ll be doing

Under the leadership of the Partnerships & Events Coordinator and Leagues & Competitions Coordinator, the Competitions & Events Intern at Rugby Ontario will have the exciting opportunity to actively contribute to the planning, coordination, and execution of various rugby competitions and events throughout the province and assist in the development of sponsorships, partnership activations and initiatives. This internship will provide hands-on experience in event management, partnership development, logistics, and administration, with a focus on preparing for the Rugby Ontario leagues and major events in 2026.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparations for 2026 Rugby Ontario Leagues:
    • Collaborate with the Competitions and Events team to ensure smooth preparation for the Ontario Women’s League, Marshall League (Men’s Senior League), Junior Cup and Youth structuring.
    • Assist in the development of competition schedules, fixture updates, and venue logistics.
  • Major Event Days:
    • Play a key role in organizing and coordinating the 2026 Minor Festivals, Youth Festivals, Junior Cup Days, OWL Cup Day, McCormick Cup Day and other events
    • Contribute to the logistical planning, including venue setup, awards presentations, check-in/sign up logistics etc.
    • Assist in marketing and promotional activities to enhance event visibility and attendance.
  • Preparation for 2026 Rugby in the Square:
    • Support the planning and preparations for the 2026 Rugby in the Square event, a flagship rugby initiative.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to enhance the event's promotional activities and community engagement.
  • Competition Administration:
    • Contribute to the day-to-day administration of Rugby Ontario competitions.
    • Assist in managing competition-related documentation, including team registrations, player eligibility and senior league agreement forms.
    • Work closely with the Competitions and Events team to address any issues that may arise during competition preparation.
  • Administration of Competitions Management Software:
    • Assist in the administration of the Rugby Ontario competitions management software.
    • Ensure accurate data entry, uploading competition schedules, and provide support to users as needed.
    • Supporting clubs or teams with creating team sheet panels in preparation for the 2026 season.
  • Communications with Member Clubs:
    • Assist in communications with Rugby Ontario member clubs regarding various aspects related to club competitions.
    • Respond to inquiries, provide information, and coordinate with clubs to ensure a smooth flow of communication.
    • Collaborate with the Communications team to disseminate relevant information through various channels.
  • Partnership Development
    • Identify organizations whose values align with those of Rugby Ontario and have potential to establish a mutually beneficial relationship for 2026 and beyond.
    • Assist in securing event sponsorships.
    • Research, establish and present potential sponsorship activations for events.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

· Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

· Current, clear criminal record check for the vulnerable sector required..

· Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a sports management, event planning, or related program.

· Valid Driver’s License and the ability / willingness to travel.

· Strong leadership and communication skills

· Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.

· Excellent listening skills with the ability to ask questions to ensure tasks are completed accurately.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

· Knowledge in sponsorship, fundraising, and events

· Strong desire to learn.

· Self-starter who shows initiative and independence.

· A record of working as a team member, as well as a history of performing in situations that require self-leadership and initiative.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint) and familiar with event management software.

· Results oriented with the ability to multi-task and problem solve.

· Ability to work within a flexible schedule and in a remote work environment setting.

· Prior experience working in a sport organization is an asset.

· Knowledge of Rugby Ontario and the Ontario rugby community is an asset.
