Rugby Ontario is actively searching for talented and ambitious individuals who are passionate about the field of sport management, want to apply their knowledge and experience, and support a vision of Rugby for All to fill the following paid intern positions:


Development Interns


The positions will focus on delivering key parts of Rugby Ontario’s Strategic Plan and will assist Rugby Ontario in achieving the strategic objectives to Support the Club Community, Build Belonging, Invest in the Future, and Advance our Rugby Culture. These positions provide critical and fundamental services to support Rugby Ontario’s community of clubs and the growth of our rugby programs.


Position Titles: Development Intern

Location: Hybrid (Remote 4 days & In-person 1 day/week if possible); Assigned to Rugby Ontario. Office address: Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, 875 Morningside Ave, Toronto ON M1C 0C7). Some additional days, such as event days, will require being onsite.

Type of Position: Full-time Term Contract (8-16 weeks from May-August; TBD based on Canada Summer Jobs approved funding). Non-traditional work hours will be required at times.

Wage: Ontario Minimum wage ($17.20/hour)

Supervisor: Director of Rugby Operations

Start Date: Tentatively May 5th 2025 (TBD based on Canada Summer Jobs approved funding).


These summer employment positions are funded by the Government of Canada’s, Canada Summer Jobs program. As a result, the summer position start and end dates are subject to change and positions are conditional. We will receive confirmation regarding the position duration in late April, at which time official job offers will be made.


Who You Are?

You are an ambitious and dynamic individual between the ages of 15 to 30 years old looking to further your knowledge and skills in recreation and sport management, education, event planning and management, non-profit/community development, sponsorship development, and/or volunteer management. You enjoy working with people of all ages, backgrounds, and life experiences. You can act professionally in different work settings and are interested in supporting the growth of rugby in Ontario.


As this job may require remote work, you must have access to a laptop and a smartphone.


Eligibility:

To be eligible for employment the individual must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.


Job Description:


Under the supervision and mentorship of the Rugby Development Manager and Director of Rugby Operations, the Rugby Development Interns will be responsible for supporting the growth and delivery of the Club Development Program, inclusive and minor rugby programs, and other community rugby and rugby development programs and initiatives. This includes building a close working relationship with other members of the Rugby Ontario team and relevant community and club stakeholders, partners, and committees to help promote, develop, deliver, and improve programming and competitions across the province including strengthening clubs and their ability to offer quality sport experiences for all. Strong communication and inter-personal skills will be important as you will be interacting with individuals in your community of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences. This coupled with excellent organizational skills will be essential to the successful achievement of these positions’ objectives. At the core, we are seeking strong sport coordinators with a passion to grow these invaluable parts of the rugby community.


Specific tasks will be assigned by Rugby Ontario but will include some of the following:

  • In collaboration with other Rugby Ontario staff, support the planning, promotion, administration, and coordination of Minor, Youth, and Mixed Ability Rugby programs and festivals across the province. Minor and Youth Rugby follow Rugby Canada’s Rookie Rugby program and are designed for children to support the development of Fundamental Motor Skills through participation in fun, non-contact, inclusive rugby games. Rookie Rugby is in line with Stages 1, 2, and 3 of the Canadian Sport for Life - Long Term Development Model.
  • Act as a representative of Rugby Ontario, to engage and develop relationships with schools and community organizations, including those that represent under-represented communities.
  • Provide clear and timely communication to stakeholders as required.
  • Support the planning and promotion of the 2025 Club Development Conference.
  • Collaborate with research partners to review and analyze data related to rugby development and apply learnings to adapt or create policies and programs to improve participant welfare, retention, overall experience paying particular attention to under-represented and equity-owed youth.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of programs and resources to support club rugby programming including volunteer management and development; inclusive and accessible community programming; player recruitment, retention, and transition; inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility; and community outreach and partnerships, among others.
  • Support the review, implementation, and/or creation of Rugby Ontario policies and procedures as they relate to community rugby development.
  • Work with Communications and Development Staff to produce and review development related content for Rugby Ontario Newsletters, Website, social media, and other communications.
  • Additional duties as required.
