The Role

Do you have a keen eye for detail with a passion for mechanics? We seek to hire a Truck and Transport Mechanic to complete the diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of the RS fleet. This includes diagnostics, safety inspections, and maintaining an overall safe work environment.

Formal education is not a strict requirement, as RS Express Ltd. instead values an individual with the knowledge, aptitude, and willingness to grow into a Truck and Transport Mechanic role.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repair, and inspections on all company facilities and equipment, including but not limited to: vans, trucks, trailers, skid steers, forklifts, and other equipment as deemed necessary
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and troubleshoot issues including but not limited to: electrical issues, hydraulic issues, etc.
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks as needed
  • Conduct occasional off-site diagnostics and repairs in the event an immobilized vehicle is deemed repairable off-site
  • Move vehicles to and from the repair shop as needed
  • Perform road tests when required to ensure equipment is in proper working order
  • May perform welding as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper condition of the shop workspace and tools used in the trade
  • Enter repair work orders in the shop management system for proper record-keeping
  • Pick up or deliver vehicles to external suppliers when required
  • Pick up parts and/or supplies from suppliers when required
  • Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to company safety policies and procedures
  • Participate in continuous learning of processes and equipment
  • Other shop duties that may be assigned from time to time


What does it take to be a part of our team?

  • Mechanic experience equivalent to a Level 3 Apprenticeship or higher is required; an equivalent combination of training and experience in the Truck and Transport/Heavy Equipment industry is accepted.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a shop environment is required; candidate must have experience working on transportation vehicles such as tractor-trailers, curtain-side trailers, cargo vans, minivans, etc.
  • Successful completion of a Truck and Transport Mechanic Program or a similar trade is an advantage
  • Red Seal Designation is an advantage and will be paid accordingly
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence is required
  • Candidate is required to provide their own toolbox and CSA-standard safety shoes
  • Manitoba Safety Inspection Mechanic, Truck/Tractor, Trailer/Semi-Trailer Certification is an advantage
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced mechanics
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Superior attention to detail

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to regularly lift and move heavy objects up to 50 lbs, including tools, parts, and equipment
  • Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Physical requirements may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling
  • Capable of working in awkward positions, including lying under vehicles or in confined spaces to access vehicle parts
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials, fumes, and loud noises. Safety equipment and training will be provided.


Salary: Starting rate is $38.00/hr, commensurate to skills, experience and certification


Schedule: Full Time, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
