Rotaflow is a leading commercial and industrial fire protection solutions provider based in Edmonton, Alberta, serving clients across Western Canada. For more than 30 years, we have designed, built, installed, retrofitted, and maintained fire protection systems and industrial utilities for major energy companies and critical infrastructure projects.

We are looking for a Controller to lead our finance and accounting function and help us continue building a modern, efficient, and forward-thinking organization.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with our Fractional CFO, you will lead a finance team of five, strengthen financial and project reporting, and partner with operations to provide meaningful financial insights that support better business decisions.

We are open to an experienced Controller or a strong Assistant Controller ready to take the next step in their career.

What You'll Do

Financial Leadership & Reporting

• Lead and develop a finance and accounting team of five.
• Oversee month-end and year-end close and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and variance analysis.
• Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with accounting, tax, and statutory requirements.
• Work with external auditors, banking partners, and surety/bonding companies.
• Partner with the CEO, Fractional CFO, and operational leaders to support business decisions.

Project Accounting & Cost Control

• Own and improve WIP reporting, job costing, and project profitability reporting.
• Provide leadership and project managers with clear visibility into margins, cost-to-complete, and over/under-billing.
• Ensure labour, materials, equipment, and indirect costs are accurately captured and allocated.
• Support accurate percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Identify project financial trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Improve the flow and reconciliation of financial information between our project management and accounting systems.

Process Improvement, Technology & Automation

We are looking for someone who is always interested in finding a better way to work.

• Identify opportunities to simplify and automate accounting processes.
• Reduce manual work and duplicate data entry.
• Improve the speed and accuracy of financial reporting.
• Help optimize our use of Spectrum (Viewpoint) and Procore.
• Explore practical opportunities to use automation and AI within finance and accounting.
• Help build efficient processes that can scale as Rotaflow grows.

You don't need to be an AI expert or systems developer. We're looking for someone who is curious about technology, comfortable learning new tools, and motivated to improve how things are done.

Qualifications & Experience

We're looking for a strong accounting professional with the experience and leadership ability to take ownership of Rotaflow's finance function.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA designation is highly preferred.
• Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar senior financial role. Construction, mechanical, industrial contracting, or other project-based industry experience is a strong asset.
• Project Accounting: Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, project profitability, and cost-to-complete reporting is highly desirable.
• Systems: Strong Excel and financial systems skills. Experience with Spectrum (Viewpoint) and/or Procore is a strong asset.
• Technology: An interest in using technology, automation, and AI to improve accounting processes, reporting, and decision-making.
• Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting professionals.
• Communication: Ability to translate complex financial information into clear, useful insights for project managers, operational leaders, and executives.

Your First 90 Days

Your initial focus will be to understand Rotaflow's business, people, projects, systems, and financial processes. From there, you'll focus on:

• Strengthening WIP, job costing, and project reporting.
• Building strong relationships with finance, operations, and leadership.
• Identifying opportunities to simplify and automate manual processes.
• Improving the use and integration of Spectrum and Procore.
• Developing practical recommendations to strengthen our finance function.
