As the Skilled Labourer your day to day job duties of this position role may include, but not be limited to:

  • Perform underground work such as excavation and piping.
  • Clean and perform preparation of work-site.
  • Operate shovel, jackhammers, rakes , small hand tools , small compaction equipment
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Utilize pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment, or to heat and move materials such as asphalt.
  • Lubricate, clean, and maintain equipment, and tools.
  • Operate, read, and maintain air monitoring and other sampling devices when working in confined spaces and/or hazardous environments.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Shoring installation, Backfill process , setting up traffic barricades, road ramps, and other temporary structures.
  • Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces using abrasive tools or machines.
  • Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Identify, pack, and transport hazardous materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the lead hand

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • 5 years general labor experience in a construction setting working with unloading materials and equipment, driving vehicles, excavating and piping experience
  • Knowledge of First Aid and CPR preferred
  • 3 years experience working in the Oil Sands Industry
  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills
  • Commitment to quality and safety
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects not more than 50lbs, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • OSSA Confined Space Entry & Monitor (must have)
  • OSSA Fall Protection training (must have)
  • CSTS (must have)
  • OSSA Fire watch / Spark watch (must have)
  • Suncor Site Orientation (online)

Work conditions
