Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the financial operations of our organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing accounting functions, managing a Junior Accountant, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The Controller will play a key role in implementing improved systems, supporting leadership with financial insights, and helping position the company for continued growth.
Duties
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Own and manage the full accounting cycle, including month-end and year-end close
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements
- Ensure proper revenue recognition, accruals, and cost allocation
- Maintain general ledger integrity and oversee all reconciliations
- Develop and standardize monthly reporting packages
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor the Junior Accountant
- Establish clear workflows, processes, and accountability within the accounting function
- Support the development of internal accounting capabilities
Systems & Process Improvement
- Lead transition from legacy Excel-based processes to structured accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks)
- Identify and implement opportunities for automation and efficiency
- Improve data visibility and reporting accessibility across the organization
Cash Flow & Working Capital
- Monitor and forecast cash flow
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable processes
- Support working capital management and liquidity planning
- Assist with lender reporting requirements and banking relationships
Business Support & Analysis
- Provide financial insights to support decision-making
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting
- Support analysis of product line performance, margins, and profitability
- Partner with Vice President to improve job costing and project tracking
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations
- Maintain internal controls and financial safeguards
- Coordinate with external accountants on year-end and tax filings
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements
- Ensure proper revenue recognition, accruals, and cost allocation
- Maintain general ledger integrity and oversee all reconciliations
- Develop and standardize monthly reporting packages
Requirements
- CPA designation (or near completion) preferred
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in a Controller or senior accounting role, ideally in a growing business
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
- Experience implementing or improving accounting systems and processes
- Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills
