The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Senior Software Developer with deep experience building and operating production software. Someone who can work as a peer with a seasoned engineering team while bringing strong architectural judgment, product thinking, and ownership of outcomes.

This is a high-impact technical role for someone who can help shape the product, architecture, engineering practices, and operational backbone of Relion’s platform. You’ll work closely with the CTO, and a team of seasoned engineers to design and build systems that support real-time charger monitoring, diagnostics, customer workflows, integrations, and infrastructure automation.

This role is ideal for someone who has operated in fast-moving environments, enjoys solving ambiguous problems, and is comfortable moving between architecture, backend development, cloud infrastructure, reliability, and product discovery.

• Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS, Cloudflare, Docker, Linux, Terraform, Ansible
• Observability: OpenTelemetry, Grafana

What You'll Bring to the Table

• 8+ years shipping real software in fast-paced environments
• 5+ years of serious Java development - you understand the JVM like an old friend
• Experience designing and operating cloud-native platforms in AWS or similar environments.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, reliability, scalability, security, and operational tradeoffs.
• Hands-on with Terraform, Ansible, and other Infrastructure-as-Code tools
• Comfort working across the software lifecycle: discovery, design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and support.
• Strong architectural thinking, with opinions you can explain clearly and adapt when new information emerges.
• Experience contributing technical direction in a senior engineering team.
• A bias for action and a practical approach to balancing speed, quality, and simplicity.
• A product mindset: you care about solving the user’s problem, not just completing the ticket.

Bonus Points

We’d be especially excited if you have experience with:

• EV charging, energy, mobility, climate tech, or infrastructure operations.
• EV charging protocols such as OCPP, OCPI, or ISO 15118.
• Deep expertise with modern observability stacks (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Startup environments where ambiguity, ownership, and speed are part of the job.

Compensation

The expected base salary range for this role is $125,000 – $175,000 CAD, based on experience, skills, and overall alignment with the role. Final compensation will be determined through the interview process.
