Railz is a FinTech company that provides a single API to all major accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, etc.) service providers and enables on-demand access to financial transactions, analytics, insights and reports on small business customers.

Our solution suits any lender, financial institution, accounting firm, auditor and tech developer that requires financial data on its small business customers for the purpose of assessing the financial health of a business.

Our Data-as-a-Service solution allows our customers to be up and running in hours. We provide quick, low cost and direct access to both existing and new customers’ accounting software via our single API.

Who You Are:

You are an Engineering Solutions Architect and have a demonstrable history of success in a similar role. You will help bridge the gap between product and engineering, and should be able to work with modern tools and frameworks, specifically focused on the MERN stack within the AWS cloud platform.

You are a ‘roll-up your sleeve’ kind of hands-on architect who promotes teamwork and builds strong relationships across the engineering teams. You also have a result-oriented mindset and are committed to driving successful delivery of scalable solutions.

You rapidly analyze architecture and codebases, and you are able to create documentation and diagrams where none exist. You provide thought leadership on how to improve on a consistent basis. You also provide guidance on best practices, new trends, approaches, and up-and-coming technologies.

As an Engineering Solutions Architect, you will help define future states while continuing to support current technologies and architectures. Working closely with engineering leadership, primarily the Chief Architect, you will not only provide input on solutions, but also own the engineering documentation across the systems and technologies.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute your knowledge and ideas to enhance our systems, platforms, and SDLC
• Assist the Chief Architect in designing and documenting applications with a focus on excellence, reliability, performance and security
• Adhere to an agile development process, and contribute to the further refinement of our CI/CD process
• Analyze and document our current engineering systems and data flows, and be the primary owner of all engineering documentation
• Act as the liaison between Product and Engineering on solutions delivery

Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience delivering solutions within an “API-First” environment using RESTful API Frameworks (where the API was the product -- not a project)
• Experience in the design and implementation of highly-available, highly-scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems
• Experience in designing both front-end User Interfaces (using React preferred, Angular or VUE acceptable) and back-end platforms (using Express & Node preferred but other JS-based technologies will be considered)
• Knowledge of relational (MySQL preferred) and NoSQL (MongoDB preferred) databases
• A high bar for code quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail
• Working knowledge of Agile (Scrum) Software Development Process methodologies
• Strong organizational skills, excellent communication and self-motivation skills
• B.Sc. in Computer Science / Computer Engineering (or equivalent)

Bonus Points:

• Prior experience with SaaS products and startups
• Experience working with payment and financial platforms (e.g. Stripe, QuickBooks, etc.)
