Cybersecurity Intern (Co-op Student)

ProServeIT Corporation is looking for a Cybersecurity Intern (Co-op Student) who has a genuine interest in technology and security. The Cybersecurity Intern will be a member of a team that manages IT security on behalf of customers to reduce the impact of security incidents and system compromises. What you will do:
1. Event Detection
Receipt of Security Alerts, (and Operational Health Alerts from Security Devices) from monitored devices and associated technology.
- Establish nature of alerts
- Establish priority of alerts
- Determine severity of alerts
- Manage communications clearly to both external stakeholders and internal stakeholders
2. Event Investigation
Follow an established process for the purposes or collecting relevant data and performing the necessary level of analysis on that data.
- Determine relationships between the event, client services, technologies and previous tickets.
- Determine whether the relationships warrant an increase in severity, and subsequent reprioritization in escalation.
- Document your findings in the service desk ticket as they are discovered.
- Manage communications clearly to both external stakeholders and internal stakeholders
3. Event Resolution/Remediation
Follow an established process for the purposes of resolving the identified threat
- Written and Verbal communications to clients dependent on severity of alert
- Promptly verify if the alert has been resolved or if it necessitates immediate escalation to the next support tier.
- Manage communications clearly to both external stakeholders and internal stakeholders
4. Event Escalation
Follow an established process for transmitting event investigation data to the appropriate point of contact, whether that point of contact is an external client, or an internal resource.
- Report on recurring problems and issues discovered during the course of your duties.
- Provide detailed specifics of steps taken up to point of escalation
- Manage communications clearly to both external stakeholders and internal stakeholders
5. Event closure
- Follow established processes to ensure that resolution criteria are met before closing tickets.
- Manage communications clearly with both external stakeholders and internal stakeholders
- Clearly documenting investigation and resolution steps through the alert lifecycle
We would love to hear from you if you:
- Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
- Have knowledge of the Microsoft Stack (Defender Suite, Office Suite, Servers/Workstation Operating Systems)
- Have knowledge of Networking Internet Connectivity and Protocols (TCP/IP)
- Have fundamental knowledge of Data Loss Prevention & Retention Policies experience
- Have fundamental knowledge of VPN Communication Protocols and Switches/Routers experience
- Have experience in Security Operations/Information Protection/Computer Incident Response Centre, KQL, Breach Resolution, EDR Solutions (Sentinel One and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint preferred); MAC OS/Linux support
- Have the ability to earn the SC-200 certification within 3 months of hiring, if not already completed
- Have the ability to conduct in-depth forensic analytical studies and investigations
- Understand basic security concepts: Principle of Least Access, Compartmentalization etc.
- Have critical thinking and problem-solving competencies driven by curiosity
- Have excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Have customer experience in high stress situations
