The Opportunity:

The Director of Operations will be a pivotal senior leader responsible for overseeing and optimizing the day-to-day operational functions across both PRI Engineering and Ecora. This role demands a strategic thinker with a proven track record in operations management within the engineering and consulting industry. The Director of Operations will drive efficiency, productivity, and profitability, ensuring seamless integration of processes, resources, and teams to support the companies' ambitious growth objectives and commitment to client satisfaction and environmental stewardship.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Strategic Operational Leadership:

  • Develop and implement strategic operational plans and policies that align with the overall business objectives and growth strategies of both PRI Engineering and Ecora.
  • Translate company vision into actionable operational strategies, setting performance metrics, timelines, and resource allocation plans.
  • Lead the integration and optimization of operational processes across various service lines (geotechnical, environmental, civil, forestry, etc.) and office locations.
  • Collaborate closely with senior management and department heads to identify and address operational challenges, recommending and implementing innovative solutions for continuous improvement.

2. Operational Management & Efficiency:

  • Oversee all aspects of daily operations, ensuring efficient management of resources, including personnel, equipment, and facilities.
  • Optimize workflows and processes to maximize efficiency, productivity, and quality across all projects and departments.
  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and reports to track operational performance, identify bottlenecks, and drive improvements.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline operations, reduce costs, and enhance overall organizational effectiveness.
  • Ensure the seamless functioning of laboratory operations (for PRI) and field operations across all service areas.

3. Financial Oversight & Resource Allocation:

  • Work closely with finance teams to develop, manage, and monitor operational budgets, ensuring cost-efficiency and financial strength.
  • Analyze financial reports to identify areas for cost savings and revenue generation, implementing strategies to optimize operational spending.
  • Oversee resource allocation for projects and internal initiatives, ensuring appropriate staffing and equipment are available.
  • Contribute to forecasting future financial needs and planning for sustained growth.

4. Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing operational team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to recruit skilled talent, establish robust training and development programs, and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive work environment.
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration and communication to enhance team synergy and project delivery.

5. Quality, Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure strict adherence to industry regulations, company policies, safety standards, and environmental guidelines across all operations.
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes for all engineering and consulting services, ensuring the highest standards of project delivery.
  • Implement and refine operational risk management strategies to mitigate potential risks and ensure business continuity.
  • Stay abreast of changing regulations and industry best practices.

6. Stakeholder & Client Relations:

  • Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and vendors, fostering strategic partnerships.
  • Review customer feedback and initiate improvements to enhance client satisfaction and retention.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in operations management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within an engineering, environmental, or natural resource consulting firm.
  • Proven track record of operational success, driving efficiency, productivity, and profitability in a multi-faceted organization.
  • Strong understanding of the engineering and environmental consulting industry, including relevant regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., geotechnical, civil, environmental, forestry).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage relationships at all levels.
  • Masterful organizational skills and the ability to manage complex projects and multiple teams simultaneously.
  • Advanced skills in strategic planning, resource management, business analytics, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficiency in operational management tools and ERP systems.
  • Experience with CCIL certifications and laboratory operations is an asset (for PRI).
  • Ability to travel to various office locations and project sites as required.
