Location: Based in Calgary, AB


Duration - 4 months Summer Internship

Role and Responsibilities


· Assist with topographic surveys of existing site conditions (non-legal survey).

· Perform field electrical resistivity surveys

· Complete subsurface investigations (including overburden drilling and rock coring and test pit investigation) and communicate results to Project Management ensuring proper soil sampling protocols are followed for purpose of subsequent laboratory testing.

· Coordinate for a variety of pile installations, undertake load testing programs for detailed pile design, ensuring equipment and test apparatus meet all appropriate design requirements.

· Construction QA / QC Inspections to verify design requirements

· Coordinate with utility locators, sub-contractor representatives and other on-site personnel

· Assist with mobilization and demobilization of project related equipment

· Perform testing under the supervisions of the supervising professional in a CCIL certified soil and concrete laboratory

· Filing project-related notes/drawings according to Project Manager requirements

· Assist with data entry and analysis of load test curves for detailed pile design

· Assist with preparation of field books and compliance with Health & Safety requirements

· Assist with general data entry, analysis and preparing documents

· Communicate with Project Manager as to any field observations or equipment needs

· Support the planning, design, and oversee civil engineering projects from conception to completion

· Perform calculations, analysis, and modeling to support engineering designs.

· Perform a full range of laboratory tests in soils/concrete lab, according to standard testing procedures

· Other duties as assigned


Qualifications and Education Requirements


· Enrolled or graduated from bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.

· Coursework in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and geology.

· Basic understanding of geotechnical engineering principles.

· Knowledge of soil testing and sampling methods.

· Previous internship or project experience in geotechnical engineering or related areas is an asset.

· The successful candidate should be flexible in assignments, willing to travel periodically, and eager to learn.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

· Valid driver’s license in jurisdiction where you reside.
