Narrative Writer II (6 Months Contract)

RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Drafts and owns in-mission and scenario writing from concept to completion
- Works closely with the Narrative Director, Design Lead, Audio, and Level Design teams to ensure writing compliments the needs of both story and gameplay
- Works closely with Level Design to ensure in-game audio delivery triggers are appropriately set-up and compliments level pacing
- Assists the Audio team and Narrative Director in casting and directing vocal talent
- Works with the Project Manager to ensure that writing milestones are completed on time for delivery and production
- Supports UI team in providing writing for any needed prompts or warnings
- Implements writing using game engine editors and scripting tools
- Data enters and maintains all in-game and internally documented prompts and cues for delivery to our localization partners
- Investigates and documents pre-existing universe lore to ensure work remains consistent within the established IP
- Actively participates in making recommendations on how to improve story and delivery quality; providing support for team members while fostering positive communication through professional, supportive, and prompt interactions
REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 3 years of game development experience in a writing or design role on a shipped title
- Writing experience in a similar capacity within the video game industry
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience
- Expert knowledge of the written English language
- Quantifiable knowledge of gameplay development pipelines, gameplay systems, gameplay audio cues, text menus, and typical player behavior to make informed decisions when planning needed content
- Moderate understanding of various game engine editors and development tools
- Understanding localization needs/constraints
- A passion for writing both character and plot driven experiences within a hard sci-fi space opera setting.
- A moderate understanding of modern military operations, jargon, strategies, and tactics
- A proven ability to work in a collaborative environment with the ability to iterate off feedback from project stakeholders
- The ability to work within a shared universe IP where legacy plotlines, characters, or other story points established by pre-existing fiction must be respected
- A proven problem solver with an analytical mind, open to critical thinking, and able to collaborate within a team-oriented environment
BONUS POINTS:
- Experience writing for First Person Shooter (FPS) single player or multiplayer games
- One AAA credited title on console/PC
- One published novel length story as the primary writing credit
- Ability to think of creative solutions to technical limitations of the game engine
- Passion for gaming
- Passion for the MechWarrior/Battletech universe IP
- Fluent in any one of our localized languages (French, German, Russian)
