Position: Weed Management Technician

Reports to: Plant Health Team

Classification: Part Time/Full Time Seasonal 


Role Objective: 

Support nursery operations by maintaining weed-free growing areas using a variety of management techniques.

General Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Department Supervisors to identify areas requiring treatment.
  • Prepare and apply herbicides safely and effectively to control unwanted vegetation in nursery growing areas, pathways, and surrounding grounds.
  • Operate chemical free, hot foam, wand sprayer equipment in container production.
  • Calibrate, and maintain spray equipment, including sprayers, foamstream, etc. with the shop department’s help. 
  • Operate zero turn mower equipped with a spray package.
  • Maintain detailed records of all treatments (including foamer, Pesticide sprays, etc.) 
  • Follow all safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) 
  • Store and dispose of chemicals properly, following label directions and company procedures.
  • Monitor treated areas for effectiveness and adjust application methods as needed.
  • Inform staff of treatment areas and safety precautions. 
  • Create, implement, and adjust an NVK weed management plan/schedule
  • Proactively seek out and apply improved techniques to make weed management more efficient and effective
  • Assist with general nursery maintenance, such as pruning, unloading, etc. as time allows.


Required Certifications:

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License
  • Grower’s Pesticide Safety Course (Training will be provided if not currently certified)
  • Forklift Safety Training (Training will be provided if not currently certified)
