Position: Weed Management Technician
Reports to: Plant Health Team
Classification: Part Time/Full Time Seasonal
Role Objective:
Support nursery operations by maintaining weed-free growing areas using a variety of management techniques.

General Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Department Supervisors to identify areas requiring treatment.
- Prepare and apply herbicides safely and effectively to control unwanted vegetation in nursery growing areas, pathways, and surrounding grounds.
- Operate chemical free, hot foam, wand sprayer equipment in container production.
- Calibrate, and maintain spray equipment, including sprayers, foamstream, etc. with the shop department’s help.
- Operate zero turn mower equipped with a spray package.
- Maintain detailed records of all treatments (including foamer, Pesticide sprays, etc.)
- Follow all safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Store and dispose of chemicals properly, following label directions and company procedures.
- Monitor treated areas for effectiveness and adjust application methods as needed.
- Inform staff of treatment areas and safety precautions.
- Create, implement, and adjust an NVK weed management plan/schedule
- Proactively seek out and apply improved techniques to make weed management more efficient and effective
- Assist with general nursery maintenance, such as pruning, unloading, etc. as time allows.
Required Certifications:
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License
- Grower’s Pesticide Safety Course (Training will be provided if not currently certified)
- Forklift Safety Training (Training will be provided if not currently certified)
