Senior Mechanical Engineer

ABOUT US:

At New School Foods, our mission is to accelerate the transition to a sustainable food system. Using our proprietary and purpose-built production technologies, we are creating the next generation of meat and seafood alternatives, which are designed to appeal to the average consumer. Our first product is a delicious plant-based filet that looks, cooks, tastes and flakes like Salmon, that’s full of Omega 3’ and protein. All with a lower carbon footprint, zero mercury, and made without harming the ocean.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Learning - Learning how to manage interdisciplinary problems and the basics of people management
• Complex Fabrication - Able to execute complex fabrication with ease and without supervision. Actively contributing to growing NSTX fabrication capabilities.
• Complex Design - Ability to independently plan and execute complex designs with lead level reviews
• CAD Proficiency - Fully proficient with advanced 3D modeling and complex assemblies. Supporting organization of CAD and project version control. 
• Troubleshooting - Ability to troubleshoot problems at a variety of complexity levels. Supporting the growth of other engineering team members in their troubleshooting process.
• Process - Actively contributes ideas towards improving processes
• Work Balance - 40% fabrication, 60% design
• Support - Senior engineers are expected to provide mentorship to intermediate, junior and coop engineers.
• Productivity - Expectation is to provide reasonable timelines and cost estimates for complex projects. Able to take full ownership of a complex project, including delegation of sub tasks and supervising procurement and fabrication.

YOU WILL BRING:

• A Bachelors or certificate in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Experience in food, cannabis, medical or related environment is a plus.
• Experience with design software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Strong people management skills.
• Understanding and knowledge of various instruments and tools in scientific experimentation and data analysis.
• Adaptable in a high paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability lift up to 40lbs.
• High attention to detail.
