Product Design Intern
ProductInternToronto, ONHybrid
About Nmbr
Nmbr is building the first global payroll infrastructure provider, starting in Canada. We’re building a foundational layer that unlocks the evolution of payroll products in markets where traditional dynamics stifled innovation. Everyone in the world who works gets paid, and yet most are still getting paid through archaic systems. Together we will change that, impacting millions of lives across every continent on earth.
The Role
We’re looking for a Product Design Intern to join us and work directly with our product and engineering team on core platform experiences.
Reporting to our product design lead, you’ll contribute to the design of workflows spanning payroll, payments, and compliance—translating complex requirements into clear, usable interfaces through exploration, iteration, and high-fidelity execution.
You’ll be embedded in real product work from day one, collaborating closely with engineers and product leaders to design features that ship. This is an opportunity to learn how design operates in a high-leverage environment—where decisions are shaped by real constraints, and clarity and quality matter.
What You’ll Do
- Work on real product problems across payroll, compliance, and much more – from early exploration to shipped UI
- Design flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity interfaces, iterating quickly based on feedback and constraints
- Collaborate closely with engineers and product managers to bring ideas into production
- Translate complex regulatory and operational requirements into clear, usable experiences
- Contribute to and evolve our design system as the product scales
- Participate in critiques and discussions, giving and receiving direct and actionable feedback
What We’re Looking For
- Currently studying Product Design, UX/UI, HCI, or a related field
- A portfolio that shows strong fundamentals: layout, hierarchy, interaction design, and product thinking
- Comfortable in Figma (components, auto layout, prototyping)
- Familiar with AI-assisted tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor) as part of your workflow
- Clear communicator – you can explain your thinking and decisions
- Curious, self-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
- Based in Canada
Nice to Have
- Experience working with or contributing to a design system
- Exposure to SaaS, fintech, or workflow-heavy products
- Interest in designing for complex systems (multi-step flows, permissions, data-heavy interfaces)
- Familiarity with how designs are implemented in code
- Experience using AI tools to explore ideas, prototype, or improve workflows
Compensation & Perks
Salary: Competitive internship compensation
Work Environment: Remote-first. Our downtown Toronto office is available, with occasional in-person working sessions for collaboration and mentorship.
Growth: Direct mentorship from a senior designer and a team of experienced product and engineering leaders
