About the Role:

Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), the Director, Government and Stakeholder Relations will play a critical role in building and strengthening relationships with government entities, industry and business associations. This role will drive the public affairs agenda of Nieuport Aviation and work closely with partners in the operation of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

The ideal candidate would be an experienced public affairs leader with a track record of developing and executing advocacy strategies in support of business outcomes. Preference will be giving to candidates who have experience working in or with government and understand the interplay of communications, community relations, stakeholder and government relations.

Key Accountabilities:

• Work with CEO / CSO to build and strengthen relationships with key government entities across Federal, Provincial, Municipal and US governments.
• Lead and execute a public affairs strategy (government, stakeholders, campaigns) including associated budget, that aligns with the company’s 1 & 5-year corporate plans.
• Further develop and expand strategic partnerships with economic, social and business associations/organizations and represent Nieuport on relevant committees and working groups where necessary.
• Ensure alignment and work closely with key airport partners including PortsToronto.
• Work closely across the organization to ensure all public facing activities and content are aligned and support corporate plans and public affairs strategy.
• Provide aviation policy advice to senior leadership to drive business objectives.
• Represent the company in a positive manner with a variety of stakeholders.
• Manage external advisor budgets and scope.

Key Qualifications:

Education & Certifications

• Combination of completion of a post secondary program (including Political Science, Public Affairs, Journalism) and/or related experience
• Bilingualism is an asset (English/French)

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a related field
• Significant experience working with government, including a strong understanding of how decisions get made within a government context
• Demonstrated ability to develop stakeholder strategies to influence outcomes
• Strong understanding of the interplay of community, government and stakeholder relationships
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated and outcomes oriented
• Experience working with Executives and Boards
• Familiarity with (or passion for) the aviation industry is a plus
• Must be eligible to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
