Role Overview

The Junior Projects Engineer (Networking) supports the successful delivery of networking projects, provides on-site technical support for client environments, and assists with Tier 2 escalations from the Service Desk.

This role is ideal for an early-career networking professional who wants exposure to project work, client environments, and operational support within a structured IT Managed Services Provider (ITMSP).


Role Allocation

The responsibilities of this role are divided approximately as follows (approximate):

· 50% – Networking Projects

· 25% – On-Demand On-Site Client Support

· 25% – Tier 2 Escalation Support (Service Desk)

Work allocation may vary based on business needs, project schedules, and incident priority.


Key Responsibilities

Networking Projects (≈50%)

· Assist with the deployment and implementation of:

o Network upgrades

o Firewall replacements

o Switch and wireless infrastructure

o VPNs and site connectivity

· Support senior engineers during project execution

· Perform configuration tasks under guidance and documented standards

· Document network changes, configurations, and diagrams accurately

· Participate in project handover to Service Desk and Managed Services teams


On-Demand Client On-Site Support (≈25%)

· Provide scheduled and ad-hoc on-site support at client locations

· Troubleshoot networking and connectivity issues in client environments

· Install, replace, and test networking hardware

· Represent the company professionally on client premises

· Communicate findings and next steps clearly to internal teams


Tier 2 Escalation Support (≈25%)

· Provide advanced technical support for user accounts, email, backups, virtualization, and remote access systems.

· Serve as an escalation point for complex or unresolved Tier 1 Service Desk issues.

· Troubleshoot and support network-related issues, including connectivity, access, and security controls.

· Mentor and coach Tier 1 technicians to improve troubleshooting skills, documentation, and efficiency.

· Perform root cause analysis on recurring incidents and implement preventative solutions.

· Maintain and support core infrastructure systems, including servers and virtual environments.

· Collaborate with team leads, senior engineers, and vendors on complex issues as needed.


Required Technical Skills & Experience

· Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Networking, or a related field

· 1–3 years of hands-on experience in IT support or networking roles

· Foundational knowledge of:

o TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP

o VLANs and basic routing

o Firewalls and VPNs

o Wired and wireless networking

· Familiarity with common networking vendors (e.g., Cisco, Fortinet, Meraki, Ubiquiti, Aruba)

· Experience working in a ticketing system (e.g., ConnectWise, Autotask, ServiceNow)

Working Conditions & Requirements

· Ability to travel to client sites within the local region

· Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation

· Ability to lift and install networking equipment as required

· Participation in on-call rotation may be required in the future (with notice and training)


· Salary Range: CAD $50,000 – $60,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
