About the role:

We are a fast-growing, mission-driven team. Our Production & Engineering team is looking for a creative thinker who loves to solve problems and is well versed in production scale-up food processing. This role is instrumental to the development of our unique plant-based fish manufacturing process and will help transition our production from lab scale to commercial scale.


As a Process Engineer, you will:


Short term (Sept. 2022 - Dec. 2022)

  • Procure equipment (sourcing, specification, and validation)
    • Resolve lab scale bottleneck issues

Medium term (Jan. 2023 - Aug. 2023)

    • Coordinate with contractors and consultants during facility built-out phase
    • Commission equipment as it arrives onsite
    • Oversee the production line startup

Long term (Sept. 2023 onwards)

    • Monitor the ongoing operations of production
    • Identify inefficiencies to optimize and improve the production process
    • Procure and commission new equipment
    • Scale up production capacity
    • Design the production line for new products
  • Ongoing
    • Support mechanical design work
    • Construct small scale prototypes
    • Test prototypes in a lab setting

You will bring:

  • Bachelor Degree (or higher) in Food, Process, Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • Understanding of food processing
  • Practical experience working in a manufacturing facility (preference towards food production) and assisting with production scale-up
  • Hands-on experience working with industrial equipment for manufacturing (including procurement, commissioning, operation, and ongoing maintenance)
  • Knowledgeable in general food safety practices (i.e. BRC, GMP, HACCP, SQF)
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing/fabrication techniques
  • Hands-on practical experience building prototypes
  • Ability to properly and safely use 3D printers, laser cutters, lathes, CNC mills, and other equipment commonly found in a machine shop
  • Highly experienced working with 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor)
  • Excellent familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
