Narcity Media’s rapidly expanding Editorial team is made up of energetic multi-platform content creators who know how to engage with Gen Z and Millennial readers, helping them discover the undiscovered by highlighting the most interesting news, places, people and ideas in their cities and beyond.


Your Mission:


As a Staff Writer/Reporter for MTL Blog, you will play a pivotal role in our daily journalism by breaking exclusive stories and reporting on news that is relevant to readers in Montreal and Quebec. We’re looking for experienced, bilingual (English and French) journalists and storytellers who have a passion for Montreal and for sharing what makes it unique with the world. Experience reporting on any or all of the real estate industry, the Quebec entertainment industry and business and economics are of particular interest.


But the right candidate should be excited to cover a little bit of everything — whether it’s news, extraordinary people, under-the-radar destinations and events, major protests, policy changes or restaurants. The Writer/Reporter will also contribute to the site’s traffic objectives and should have a strong network of sources and a knack for finding unique angles. They should have a record of breaking news and be passionate about working alongside like-minded people on an enthusiastic team.



Your Responsibilities:


1. Help MTL Blog to reach its quantitative objectives

  • Pitching, writing, and editing news articles
  • Publishing multiple stories per day
  • Creating compelling packaging that showcases your voice and MTL Blog's tone
  • Maintaining high-quality work while meeting ambitious goals

2. Help MTL Blog reach its journalistic objectives

  • Breaking news and getting exclusive interviews
  • Using existing sources and nurturing new ones to deepen our expertise and trustworthiness
  • Ensuring all information is properly cited and factually accurate
  • Working with Editors to make sure we are the best website for Gen Z and Millennial content

Your Qualifications:

  • Experience as a news reporter or journalist
  • Perfectly, perfectly bilingual (spoken and written English, spoken French)
  • A degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is an asset but not required
  • Experience with breaking stories and getting exclusives first
  • Deep knowledge of what is happening and trending in Montreal and Quebec
  • Proven ability to write strong copy on tight deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for brainstorming as a team
  • An ability to spot catchy, unique angles and execute on them quickly
  • Familiarity with various style guides – AP Style is a plus
  • Available to work a flexible, full-time schedule with occasional weekends and evenings required as needed.

Position Type & Salary Range:


This is a permanent remote position based in Quebec. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.


$45,000-$60,000 CAD
