The Mississaugua Golf and Country Club is one of Canada’s top private all-season golf clubs, with a diverse membership of 1,400 members and an outstanding Tier One golf course famous for its excellence. The Club has played host to numerous premier events, including six Canadian Opens.
Founded in 1906, MG&CC is a year-round private club that offers golf, curling and tennis, dining, fitness, and social amenities. Our Tudor Clubhouse is a spectacular venue for casual and fine dining, banquets, weddings, and various social events and functions.
Position Summary
The Junior Sous Chef is a key member of the culinary team, responsible for assisting with the smooth operation of the kitchen in collaboration with the Executive and Sous Chefs. This role ensures all recipes, food preparation, and presentation align with MG&CC's high standards of excellence. The Junior Sous Chef maintains a productive, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. This position provides development opportunities, enabling the Junior Sous Chef to cultivate leadership skills necessary for upward mobility.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in day-to-day kitchen operations providing guidance and support to cooks and dishwashers.
- Collaborate with Executive and Sous Chefs on decision-making and culinary projects.
- Prepare cold and hot meals for various dining outlets, including restaurant service and banquets.
- Cooking across all stations within the Club, depending on event schedules—working in the main kitchen, Terrace Room, banquet halls, and the Main Lounge.
- Support in managing kitchen stations, communicating needs, and addressing challenges. Provide feedback on menu design, content, and trends, as well as assist with daily features and seasonal menu launches.
- Organize workstations and coach staff to maximize productivity, efficiency, and organization.
- Help control food costs through proper storage procedures, standardized recipes, and waste control.
- Assist with inventory management and ensure purchases are cost-effective while maintaining quality.
- Ensure quality by testing portions, garnishes, temperature, taste, and appearance of food.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, freezers, fridges, and workstations.
- Participate in FOH briefings, food tastings, and staff education, emphasizing allergens and menu details.
- Providing training and onboarding for junior staff and sanitation team members.
- Ensuring adherence to health, safety, and sanitation standards and participating in the Club’s Health & Safety Committee.
Skills & Requirements
- 3-5 years of progressive culinary experience in a professional kitchen, including exposure to various cuisines and cooking techniques.
- Professional culinary training and Red Seal Certification are assets.
- Experience in a fast-paced, upscale environment, with banquet experience preferred.
- Coaching experience in training and supervising teams.
- Must have Food Safe Certification.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure.
- High attention to detail, even during frequent interruptions.
- Ability to maintain focus and complete tasks accurately.
- Demonstrates a desire for career growth within the culinary industry, with a willingness to learn, take on more responsibilities, and pursue leadership roles.
- Strong work ethic, with leadership and motivational skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate closely with senior chefs in menu planning and daily kitchen operations.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration with front-of-house teams and other departments, promoting effective communication to ensure seamless service.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards, sanitation protocols, and food-handling techniques.
- Highly organized, with a strong commitment to quality and member satisfaction.
- Ability to contribute to a positive work environment with a flexible, problem-solving mindset.
- Artistic flair for creating unique, visually appealing dishes.
- Effective time management and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships across the team.
- Ability to respond to challenges and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (90% of the time).
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Frequent repetitive movements, including twisting, bending, stirring, and mixing.

Compensation:
At Mississaugua Golf & Country Club we offer an attractive compensation package commensurate with experience.
