The Mississaugua Golf and Country Club is one of Canada’s top private all-season golf clubs, with a diverse membership of 1,400 members and an outstanding Tier One golf course famous for its excellence. The Club has played host to numerous premier events, including six Canadian Opens.


Founded in 1906, MG&CC is a year-round private club that offers golf, curling and tennis, dining, fitness and social amenities. Our Tudor Clubhouse is a spectacular venue for casual and fine dining, banquets, weddings and various social events and functions.


Position Summary

Mississaugua Golf and Country Club is seeking a General Accountant to join our Accounting department. This position provides key support to the Controller and manages the Accounts Payable function. In addition, the role is responsible for administering and performing various accounting functions, including preparation of monthly and annual financial reports and statements, assisting with budgeting, ledgers and other transactions.


Key Responsibilities

o Develop, analyze, reconcile, balance, and maintain accurate accounting records

o Oversee accounting for the Pro Shop; including reporting sales, invoice payment, overseeing inventory count, analyzing expenses and reporting profit margins

o Perform monthly bank reconciliations

o Prepare and reconcile monthly journal entries

o Assist with annual preparation of operating and capital budgets and analyze variance of actual to budget for expenditures in all departments

o Accompany the Controller to Finance Committee meetings and take minutes

o Prepare and submit monthly HST, WSIB, EHT remittance returns and all payroll related remittances

o Assist with internal and external audits including preparation of working papers

o Reconcile monthly Visa statements, allocate expenditures and create report for authorization

o Balance prize funds and prepare related statements

o Identify and recommend opportunities to continuously improve financial procedures to maximize efficiency

o Respond quickly and professionally to all member, vendor and team member inquiries and requests

o Oversee the Accounts Payable function, including; posting invoices, reviewing all invoices for appropriate documentation and approvals in accordance with Club policies, processing vendor payments and maximizing vendor credit terms

o Maintain all accounts payable reports, spreadsheets and Club accounts payable files

o Reconcile all vendor statements in advance of month-end

o Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of AP processing

o Administer the Club’s petty cash and hold the Visa card for employee use

o Prepare detailed and timely analysis of accounts, as required

o Handle all financial and Club related matters with a great amount of integrity, confidentiality and accountability

o Perform other related duties as assigned


Requirements

o 3+ years accounting experience in a mid-sized organization

o University / College degree or diploma in Accounting or Finance

o Experience in a not-for-profit or Private Club environment is an asset

o Technically strong in accounting principles (GAAP), practices and procedures and internal controls

o Knowledge of financial analysis and reconciliation techniques

o High level of computer proficiency with Excel spreadsheets and accounting software

o Experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation and cash procedures

o Focused on delivering high levels of service and responding to all inquiries/requests in a professional manner and with a sense of urgency

o Demonstrated skills in time management, planning and organization

o Confident, energetic with ability to build credibility with staff at all levels

o Proven ability to be proactive and use good judgment

o Excellent communication skills – verbal, written & presentation

o Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal & external stakeholders

o Self – motivated with the ability to take initiative and be resourceful

o Able to maintain confidentiality / privacy of information
