Position SummaryReporting to the Supervisor, Plant Services, the Maintenance Tradesperson 2 performs skilled journeyperson-level maintenance and repair on the Corporation’s physical plant and building systems. This role supports preventative maintenance programs, equipment monitoring, and contractor oversight to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and compliant with all applicable codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Skilled Maintenance & Repairs
- Operate, troubleshoot, install, and maintain building mechanical equipment including HVAC systems, controls, and utility systems
- Monitor and adjust building management systems (BMS), DDC controls, and water treatment systems for proper performance
- Use precision instruments, blueprints, and working drawings for maintenance, repairs, and infrastructure upgrades
- Perform minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and tasks fall within training and safety limits
Preventative Maintenance & Inspections
- Complete seasonal and preventative maintenance, inspections, and servicing of mechanical and life-safety equipment
- Maintain detailed logs and documentation of inspections, repairs, and service activities
Estimating, Inventory & Planning
- Prepare material cost estimates and work orders for maintenance projects
- Maintain inventories of tools, parts, and materials
- Source suppliers and order equipment and replacement parts as needed
Contractor Coordination & Site Support
- Assist and oversee contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards, and safety guidelines
- Work collaboratively with maintenance and operational staff to complete tasks efficiently and safely
Other Duties
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Plant Services
What to Expect
Tools & Systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS/Metasys/DDC)
- Precision tools, HVAC diagnostic instruments, and trade-specific power tools
- Light automotive vehicles
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Blueprints, schematics, and shop drawings
Work Conditions
- Regular 40-hour work week with occasional evenings, weekends, or shift work depending on operational needs
- Indoor and outdoor work, including rooftops, mechanical rooms, confined spaces, and high-heat or noisy environments
- Frequent use of ladders, power tools, and PPE
- Must be able to respond to emergencies and participate in on-call rotation if required
Qualifications
- Valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate (unrestricted) — required
- Grade 12 education with at least 4 years of related facilities maintenance experience including work with DDC controls
- Secondary trade experience in instrumentation, refrigeration, millwright, plumbing, or welding is an asset
- Basic understanding of steam fitting, advanced plumbing, refrigeration, and electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical schematics
- Training and experience working with Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACM)
- Physically capable of performing duties including lifting, working at heights, and working in confined spaces
- Ability to safely operate tools, powered equipment, and light automotive vehicles
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
