Position Title: Carpenter

Reports To: Housing Manager

Wage: $30 to $45 per hour based on education and experience: Red Seal certification preferred

Summary of Organizational Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will coordinate and complete repairs and maintained on over 200 Band housing units. The candidate will perform skilled carpentry work at the journeyman level in construction, repair and maintenance of structural elements, fittings, roofs, stairs, fences, etc.

Duties and Tasks

• Coordinate daily direction and scheduling of tasks with other maintenance staff .

• Conduct house and building Inspections and plan maintenance for housing units.

• Coordinate with ordering material and supplies.

• Coordination of contractors, consultants and major repairs for maintenance and repairs.

• Other constructions duties as directed.


Qualifications:

• Red Seal Carpentry certification preferred plus 5 years minimum experience, OR, or a combination of proven extensive training and

10 years minimum experience

• Must have a minimum of grade 12 education.

• Minimum 5-7 years of proven direct work experience in home construction.

• Must have proven related experience on coordinating and executing on complex and multiple projects simultaneously.

• Mechanical experience and aptitude around equipment.

• WHIMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) an asset.

• First Aid certification.


Skill Requirements:

• Good verbal and written communication skills

• Team oriented with excellent interpersonal skills

• Good time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision

• Hands-on experience with productivity applications such MS Office

• Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering, as well as inventory control of these items

• General mathematical and budgeting skills


Working Environment:

High demand volume periods requiring occasional overtime in all weather conditions. Adherence to project timelines and deadlines. Close teamwork environment requiring commitment to be at work for planned projects. Frequent dialogue by phone, email, and in person with contractors, staff and managers. Occasional distractions from field level noise. Working long periods outside in, around and on various equipment, work at a computer, with occasional periods on the phone, and paperwork. Substantial travel to and from field on a daily recurring basis required. Ability to work evenings and weekends on-call as operational requirements dictate.
