To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations


*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market. Learn more.

Client Service Clerk - Food Bank (CSJ)

Location: 2675 Innes Rd, Ottawa, ON (Lifecentre.Care)

Workweek: Monday to Friday, with Saturday availability as required

Term: Fixed-term contract

Duration: 8 weeks (June 29, 2026 – August 23, 2026)

Hours: 32 hours per week

Wage: $18.64 per hour


Overview

The Client Service Clerk - Food Bank Outreach Worker plays a key role in supporting daily operations at Lifecentre.Care’s food bank and outreach programs. This position offers hands-on experience in client service, warehouse operations, volunteer coordination, and basic administration.

The role is designed to help youth build transferable skills in communication, teamwork, organization, and community service while contributing to meaningful local impact. The successful candidate will gain exposure to logistics, client interaction, and program coordination in a fast-paced, community-focused environment.

Assets (Not Required)

  • Experience working or volunteering in a warehouse or food bank setting
  • Experience coordinating or supporting volunteers
  • Familiarity with inventory tracking or basic logistics processes
  • Ability to safely handle and move boxes or supplies


Responsibilities

Client Service & Outreach (40%)

  • Welcome and assist clients accessing food bank services
  • Respond to phone and email inquiries in a professional manner
  • Support a respectful, inclusive, and organized client experience

Warehouse & Inventory Support (35%)

  • Assist with receiving, sorting, and organizing food and supplies
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the warehouse space
  • Support inventory tracking and basic data entry

Administration & Volunteer Support (25%)

  • Assist with administrative tasks such as activity logs and reporting
  • Support coordination and guidance of volunteers during shifts
  • Collaborate on basic outreach or promotional activities as needed
