Assistant Financial Controller

As our new Assistant Financial Controller, you will manage and be responsible for the Company’s financial reconciliation and reporting requirements across projects and general operations. You will provide accurate, timely and relevant management information as well as providing advice and guidance to the President, Management and project teams. You will play a key role in delivering accounting and finance solutions to our team, working in a truly global marketplace. This is a full-time, permanent, Ottawa-based role.


What you can expect to be doing:

× Supporting the President, and our (overseas) Financial Controller with preparation of monthly forecasts, including assumptions, risks and opportunities and explanation of forecast movements.

× Supporting the business in producing robust monthly Contract Status Reports (CSRs) and quarterly Sales and Margin Trading Plans.

× Monitoring financial performance through the Monthly Forecast and Business Planning processes.

× Working with the Project Team / budget holders to understand forecast, Business Plans and CSR movements.

× Working with the Project Team to ensure correct and accurate accounting of forecast / actuals on all active projects.

× Supporting the business winning team in delivering optimal customer solutions.

× Reconciling financial data and resolving problems/issues where appropriate to ensure integrity of information provided.

× Ensuring all financial procedures and controls are applied as required; and supporting non-finance functions on their application.

× Support the annual update of the Integrated Business Plan and phased budget.

× Proactively seeking to improve local processes and working practices to drive efficiencies across the team and wider business to help drive the Finance function forward in Canada.


What you bring:

× Canadian Accounting designation and/or certification

× Business/accounting-focused university degree or equivalent

× Advanced Excel and proficient in MS Office

× Solid experience with QuickBooks and QBO

× Solid experience with online Banking processes including bank recs, AR, AP, monthly and quarterly close and reporting to Federal/Provincial authorities, and Leonardo Group Finance management hierarchy.

× Exposure to and understanding of SR&ED Tax credits and filing – manage external service for same.

× Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

× Ability to re-prioritise to meet key deadlines, focusing on high quality output and support

× Understanding of Payroll and payroll services applications;

× Able to manage external payroll and group benefit service providers

× IFRS 15 knowledge could be a plus but not required

× You will be an enthusiastic, proactive individual, eager to do the job and excited about company projects/contracts and growth


Security Clearance:

Given the nature of our business, it is a condition of employment that the successful candidate receive the required security clearances. Successful candidates must be eligible for Controlled Goods Regulations Program (CGRP) government clearances and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) . In addition, candidates must be able to obtain a Canadian Industrial Security Clearance to NATO SECRET level.

In general, in order to obtain these clearances, you:

× Must be either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;

× Must have lived in Canada continuously for the past 10 years;

× Must not have a criminal record.
