As the leader of our I.T. team, you will play a key role in supporting Company I.T. systems and infrastructure that enable us to develop and deliver leading technologies to our customers.


The Role:

This is a challenging, engaging, and rewarding role with high visibility and oversight of all aspects of the I.T.

You’ll be leading the technical direction of our I.T. systems in support of current business needs and project requirements, managing and enhancing the I.T. service portfolio company wide, with a technology stack far more advanced than most companies of our size.

With a team of two direct reports, our I.T. Lead represents a hybrid management/hands-on role, reporting to Head of Operations. The I.T. team handles all aspects of our I.T. including architecture, infrastructure, hardware, software help desk, project management, strategy, and Governance Risk and Compliance.


Location and Hours:


The successful candidate will play a key role across the business and as such is expected to be available to work on-site as well as remotely in response to business requirements. Occasional after-hours and weekend work will be required from time to time in support of business-critical systems.

Education & knowledge:

  • A post-secondary degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent;
  • Advanced or Expert certifications in project management, infrastructure, administration and/or security are an asset;
  • Direct knowledge and experience in architecting, configuring, supporting, and managing the full stack of I.T. in an organization with a stack far larger than its size and/or defense organisation.


Responsibilities:

  • Leading, managing, and mentoring the I.T. team
  • Manage the I.T. backlog including prioritizing I.T. initiatives that contribute to continuous improvement of our systems
  • Act as an escalation point for help-desk tickets and change requests
  • Lead the identification, planning and implementation of special I.T. projects on behalf of the business unit.
  • Developing and managing the I.T. roadmap, ensuring it is designed to be scalable and adaptable to evolving business requirements throughout its lifecycle;
  • Work with stakeholders to understand requirements, propose solutions, and understand and set priorities in fitting with business priorities
  • Monitor and manage risk to the business related to its I.T. systems including security, obsolescence, human, operational, strategic, financial, and compliance risk
  • Document systems, tasks, processes, and procedures in systems like Confluence, Jira, and asset management systems;
  • Review and update policies and documentation as necessary
  • Develop the annual I.T. budget, with monthly reporting to management including budgeting, cyber security, time tracking and progress on special projects.
  • Build and manage relationships with new and existing vendors

Your experience and background:

  • 10+ years progressive experience with all areas of I.T. in a small to medium business with exposure to a broad technology stack, ideally within the software and/or defence industry
  • Knowledge from architecting, implementing, and maintaining systems in compliance with various frameworks and requirements (such as NIST 800-171/172, Cyber Essentials, and other relevant defence standards).
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery Plans and Table-Top exercises.
  • Strong leadership and hands-on experience supporting and managing systems to meet evolving business requirements
  • Experience managing annual budgets and capital projects.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and deploying new computers and VM’s using imaging or one-off configurations
  • Extensive knowledge of managing VM’s and clusters of Microsoft Hyper-V and/or VMware nodes
  • Extensive knowledge of managing setting up, configuring, and maintaining Windows and Linux based desktop and server operating systems and Docker containers
  • Extensive knowledge of I.T. and Cyber Security best practices, related to the implementation and management of servers, switches, software, and hardware firewalls, SAN/vSAN and NAS’, anti-virus, Active Directory / Azure-AD and Office 365, and Mobile Device Management / Intune
  • Extensive knowledge of networking and authentication concepts such as subnets, firewall policies, VPN, routing, VLAN’s, and more advanced areas like 802.1x, certificate authentication, Kerberos, and proxies
  • Experience using and/or administering MATLAB, Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, DevOps platforms, YouTrack, or similar
  • Extensive hands-on experience designing, implementing, and managing highly available compute, failover, and load balancing for servers and networking


Security Clearance:


Given the nature of our software development environment, it is a condition of employment that the successful candidate receive the required security clearances. Successful candidates must be eligible for Controlled Goods Regulations Program (CGRP) government clearances and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). In addition, candidates must be able to obtain a Canadian Industrial Security Clearance to NATO SECRET level.

In general, to obtain these clearances, you:

  • Must be either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
  • Must have lived in Canada continuously for the past 10 years;
