Years working in a foreign exchange brokerage taught our founder, Adam, firsthand about the barriers smaller institutions face in the FX market. To compete in a system built for larger players, they had to piece together rigid, legacy stand-alone software, build everything themselves from scratch, or make do with emails, spreadsheets and grit. About the role


Kooltra's development team is a small but mighty group of engineers who are passionate about building great products. We practice Agile and TDD methodologies with short iterations. We code in Apex, Java (Spring, Hibernate, Gradle), Python (Behave), ES6, React deployed on Amazon Web Services and Salesforce. We have a micro-service architecture and we practice continuous integration. We ship frequently, deploying our code continuously.


In this role, you will

  • Build new applications and maintain components on the platform, including trading, accounting, risk management, integrations, REST API, etc.
  • Work on product focused scrum teams to identify requirements and specifications and contribute to design and architectural decisions
  • Collaborate with other developers on cross-functional scrum teams working on features for our customers
  • Advocate software engineering and Agile best practices, and help to continuously maintain robust and testable code
  • Lead other developers by example, with an open mind to share and learn from your peers
  • Own cross-engineering initiatives and/or lead a scrum team

We are looking for people with

  • A love of development and improving their craft
  • 4+ years of experience building and delivering new features, processes, and tools (ideally with Java or Apex)
  • Experience working with large codebases and writing robust and testable code
  • Ability to identify problems and take initiative in solving them
  • Ability to balance desire to ship code quickly to our customers with responsibility of making good technical decisions
  • Mastery of Agile, Software Engineering best practices and Object-Oriented Programming
  • Experience providing technical or team leadership for other engineers
