ABOUT the JOB:

The Family Support Worker supports families, youth, and children within multiple program settings based on the employee’s skillset and fit. Programs include:

Overall responsibilities of the Family Support Worker include but are not limited to:

  • Deliver family-centered support in various settings, teaching parenting, communication, problem-solving, and life skills
  • Advocate for the rights and well-being of individuals and families
  • Assess strengths, needs, and family dynamics to inform service plans
  • Collaborate with families and stakeholders (e.g., MCFD) to set realistic goals and interventions
  • Coordinate and consult with care teams to support goal achievement
  • Monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust support as needed
  • Provide follow-up support and connect clients to community resources
  • Build and strengthen formal and informal support networks
  • Respond effectively to crisis situations, assess risk, and support stabilization


EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree (preferred) or Diploma in Human or Social Service or other related field - A degree is an asset.
  • 1-year recent relevant experience working with families, youth, and children facing multiple barriers.
  • Or a combination of education, training, and experience.

Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with clients, families, and care teams
  • Apply evidence-based approaches to support individuals facing mental health, addiction, and violence-related challenges
  • Facilitate engaging group sessions and life skills development
  • Support emotional regulation, coping strategies, and positive behaviour change
  • Effectively manage crisis situations and challenging behaviours
  • Communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams; advocate for client needs
  • Maintain clear, accurate documentation and confidentiality
  • Work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and inclusivity across diverse backgrounds
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and adaptable to new technologies


REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Own vehicle with Business Use and third-party liability insurance of $5 million (reimbursement is provided).
  • Ability to travel to the surrounding areas identified within our contracts
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: CPR-C, Mandt, SafeTALK, Safe Food Handling, MCFD Privacy, Anti-Bullying, Abuse and Neglect Awareness training and Harassment.
  • A background check through the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General is required.
  • This job requires union membership with a 1.85% union dues deduction from pay.

    • Option 1: 10.6% additional pay with every paycheck OR

PROGRAM: Child and Family Services

LOCATION: Merritt, BC

STATUS: Temp Part-Time

TERM: 6 months or until the rerun of the incumbent

HOURS of WORK: 22.5 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, Flexible schedule during daytime hours, some evenings and weekends based on client needs.

REPORTS TO: Child and Family Services, Merritt Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $29.17 - $33.49 per hour (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)

CLOSING DATE: Open until a suitable candidate is found
