About Us

Haven Greens is leading the way in sustainable agriculture by revolutionizing leafy greens production with advanced, fully automated greenhouse technology. Based in King City, Ontario, our cutting-edge facilities use renewable energy and Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) practices to deliver fresh, locally grown cut baby leaf lettuce year-round.

As Canada’s first net-zero lettuce greenhouse, we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of farming and minimizing long-haul transportation. Our team is fast-paced, collaborative, and driven by a mission to transform how fresh food gets to market.

We are now entering a major phase of growth—expanding our flagship King City site and developing a second campus in the region. This expansion represents one of the most ambitious CEA buildouts in Canada.

About the Role

The Construction Manager at Haven Greens is a key leadership role responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all construction activities for the development of a 5-acre fully automated greenhouse expansion at our current facility. This is a fixed term contract for one year with the possibility to extend to a permanent, full-time role.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Construction Manager will lead all aspects of project execution—from pre-construction planning and permitting, to contractor management, site coordination, scheduling, safety oversight, quality control, and commissioning. This role will ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and to the technical standards required for high-performance CEA operations.

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction leader with a deep understanding of high tech greenhouse development, ideally with experience working with Dutch greenhouse contractors. They thrive in fast-growing environments, excel at managing complexity, and bring a strong mix of field presence, project leadership, communication skills, and technical acumen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership & Planning
    • Lead planning and execution for all construction phases, starting with the 5-acre greenhouse expansion and later the development of a second campus.
    • Develop and manage detailed project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and risk assessments.
    • Coordinate pre-construction activities including site investigations, permitting, engineering review, and vendor selection.
    • Ensure all design plans meet operational requirements for automation, climate systems, utilities, food safety, and controlled-environment agriculture workflows.
  • Construction Oversight
    • Direct day-to-day on-site construction activities, ensuring progress aligns with the master drawings and specifications, and that project timelines are maintained.
    • Coordinate the work of general contractors, subcontractors, trades, and specialized technology vendors.
    • Conduct regular site walkthroughs to monitor workmanship, safety compliance, progress milestones, and adherence to quality standards.
    • Resolve construction challenges promptly to minimize delays and disruptions.
  • Stakeholder Coordination
    • Serve as the primary liaison between construction teams and Haven Greens leadership, providing regular updates on status, budget, risks, and critical path items.
    • Work closely with the construction planning team to ensure facility design and infrastructure support operational requirements. Stakeholders include Operations, Logistics, Maintenance, Cultivation, FSQA, and Engineering.
    • Coordinate with municipal authorities, utility partners, engineering consultants, and technology suppliers to support smooth project execution.
  • Budget, Contracts & Procurement
    • Manage project budgets, cost tracking, and financial reporting to the COO and executive team.
    • Review, negotiate, and manage construction contracts, change orders, and vendor agreements.
    • Oversee procurement of long-lead equipment, greenhouse systems, structural components, and specialized agricultural infrastructure.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety, quality, or operational performance.
  • Quality Control, Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure all construction activities comply with OHSA regulations, building codes, environmental requirements, and internal safety standards.
    • Lead and document site safety meetings, inspections, and corrective actions.
    • Oversee quality assurance processes for structural, mechanical, electrical, and automation installations.
    • Support commissioning, validation, and handover processes to ensure systems function as intended for CEA operations.
  • Commissioning & Handover
    • Coordinate final inspections, system commissioning, and validation of greenhouse automation, climate controls, irrigation systems, and related infrastructure.
    • Ensure as-built documentation, manuals, training materials, and maintenance guides are complete and handed over to operational teams.
    • Support post-construction reviews, punch-lists, and continuous improvement for subsequent phases.
  • Long-Term Expansion Planning
    • Contribute to multi-year campus planning, including feasibility studies, site layout, infrastructure requirements, and sequencing of future expansions.
    • Build repeatable systems and processes to support Haven Greens' ongoing construction program as the company scales.
