Job Title: CHURCH CUSTODIAN
Location: Blessed Sacrament Parish, Burford
Reports To: Parish Priest
Employment Type: Part-Time, 8-10 hours/week (filling an existing role)
Position Summary
Blessed Sacrament Parish in Burford is seeking a part-time Church Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across all parish facilities. This position averages 8-10 hours per week, with a regular commitment to Fridays and flexible availability on weekends as needed. Responsibilities include cleaning, seasonal groundskeeping, building maintenance, and liturgical decoration in support of parish worship and community life.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Cleaning & Event Support
- Clean and maintain the church, hall, meeting rooms, parish kitchen, and washrooms.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and clean windows.
- Restock supplies; manage garbage/recycling and disposal areas.
- Perform routine and deep cleaning (daily/weekly/seasonal)
- Set up/take down rooms for events (tables, chairs, etc.).
- Assist with liturgical and seasonal decorating.
Grounds & Seasonal Maintenance
- Winter: Clear snow/ice from entrances and walkways; salt surfaces; maintain logs.
- Spring/Fall: Seasonal cleanup and general grounds care.
Building Maintenance & Systems
- Monitor building systems (lighting, HVAC, boiler, fire alarm, emergency systems).
- Conduct inspections, including monthly fire alarm tests.
- Perform minor repairs (electrical, plumbing, painting) and replace bulbs/filters.
- Coordinate contractors and assist with inspections (fire, HVAC, elevator).
- Maintain inventory of maintenance and cleaning supplies.
Safety, Operations & Administration
- Ensure facilities are clean, safe, and hazard-free; follow safety standards.
- Lock/unlock buildings and respond to urgent/emergency needs.
- Maintain maintenance, inspection, and snow removal logs.
- Support waste management systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; 2–3 years’ related experience preferred.
- Ability to perform physical work indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, building systems, and maintenance tools.
- Valid G Class Driver’s License.
- Steel-toed safety boots.
