Location: Hybrid role with a balance of online work and local travel across Waterloo, Kitchener, and Cambridge. Occasional travel to Toronto for training and events.
Job Type: Part Time – 25 Hours

GEM’s mission is to advance gender equity and enhance economic opportunities by providing personalized career mentorship and hands-on learning to female high school students navigating socio-economic challenges. Through mentorship, GEM supports young women to envision their full potential and take effective action toward their academic and professional goals.
In collaboration with our community, partners, and a network of passionate volunteers, GEM delivers impactful mentorship, skill-building workshops, professional development activities (GEMinars), scholarships, internships, and innovative research on mentorship solutions for high school girls. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dedicated and organized Program Coordinator to join our dynamic team.
Position Overview
As the GEM Waterloo Program Coordinator, you will play a critical role in launching and coordinating GEM’s first regional pilot in the Waterloo area. Reporting to the Mentee Lead, you will oversee day-to-day program operations, oversee mentor and mentee recruitment, engage local schools and community partners, and ensure a seamless experience for all participants. This position is ideal for someone passionate about youth mentorship, gender equity, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Program Launch
- With the support of GEM HQ, lead recruitment for Waterloo mentees and mentors, including outreach, application management, screening, and onboarding.
- Conduct targeted outreach to high-need schools, neighborhoods, community organizations and GEM partners
- Collaborate with GEM HQ to ensure recruitment strategies align with program goals and DEI principles.
Event & Youth Engagement Coordination
- Plan and support local events and enrichment opportunities for mentees and mentors and support HQ with GEMinars.
- Facilitate the launch and management of the Waterloo Youth Council, guiding alumnae involvement and youth-led initiatives.
- Organize information sessions, community engagement activities, and digital outreach campaigns tailored to the region.
Administrative & Program Support
- Maintain program records, track participation and outcomes, manage communications, and document meetings.
- Support mentor-mentee matching, ongoing engagement, and regular program reporting to GEM HQ.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in administrative, program coordination, or event planning roles.
- Valid G Class driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle.
- Currently enrolled in or has completed an undergraduate degree or diploma in youth/gender studies, social work, education, or a related field (preferred).
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and SharePoint.
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with youth and diverse communities.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion; experience in the non-profit sector is an asset.
