Why This Role Matters

We are looking for a Finance Officer who is detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to advancing equity and real-world impact for 2SLGBTQI communities.

Reporting to the Director, Finance and Administration, you will support the day-to-day financial operations of Egale. You will help maintain accurate books of account, complete reconciliations, oversee accounts receivable and billing, support internal financial reporting, and assist with audits and payroll.

Your work will help ensure that financial transactions are recorded accurately, internal controls are followed, and financial information is reliable for decision-making. Working closely with teams across the organization, you will contribute to strong financial management practices that keep Egale fiscally sound, accountable, and aligned with our mission.

What You’ll Lead

You’ll support core finance and accounting processes that underpin Egale’s financial health and operational effectiveness.

General Accounting & Bookkeeping

  • Maintain books of account, including posting invoices, preparing cheques, processing credit card statements, preparing deposits, and performing reconciliations.
  • Issue cheques and process payments for invoices accurately and on time.
  • File and organize all documents and invoices related to finance and accounting.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all financial activities.
  • Maintain an up-to-date, complete, and systematic filing system to support bookkeeping and financial records.
  • Provide other accounting services as necessary, as assigned by the Director, Finance and Administration.

Accounts Receivable & Billing

  • Oversee accounts receivable, including preparing and sending invoices to customers, funders, and partners.
  • Process refunds as required.
  • Interact with customers on past-due accounts in a professional and timely manner, including follow-up and documentation.

Reconciliations & Financial Reporting

  • Complete monthly reconciliations for general ledger accounts as required by the Director.
  • Reconcile credit card statements on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations and compare with monthly donor reports.
  • Generate project financial reports for project staff and the Project Management department.
  • Maintain and update amortization schedules.
  • Work with the Director to develop, analyze, and interpret statistical and accounting information to assess operating results, profitability, performance against budget, and overall fiscal soundness.
  • Prepare and revise internal financial reports to improve usefulness and efficiency and assist in preparing external financial reports as necessary.

Audit, Compliance & Controls

  • Assist with preparation for audits or independent reviews, including gathering documentation and responding to information requests.
  • Assist in maintaining policy and procedure documentation for complex financial and accounting issues.
  • Support compliance with accounting standards, legal requirements, and internal controls.

Payroll Support

  • Assist in the preparation of payroll as required, ensuring accuracy, appropriate documentation, and timely processing in coordination with HR.

Process Improvement & Collaboration

  • Work with the Director to identify and implement improvements to financial processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and key business partners to support financial information needs and maintain strong working relationships.

What You’ll Bring

You bring solid accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to equity and inclusion. Here’s what we’re looking for in this role.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Working towards obtaining a CPA designation or willingness to pursue a CPA designation (preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting.
  • Experience performing general accounting and bookkeeping, including reconciliations and maintenance of books of account.
  • Experience with accounts receivable, billing, and interacting with customers on outstanding accounts.
  • Experience preparing or supporting internal financial reports and reconciliations.
  • Experience working with computerized accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Turbine or similar).
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365 tools (e.g., Excel, Word, SharePoint).
  • Experience performing accounting for not-for-profit organizations is an asset.
  • Billing experience and/or project-based financial tracking experience are assets.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of basic and intermediate accounting principles and practices.
  • Understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, and documentation requirements.
  • General understanding of computerized accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Turbine).
  • Knowledge of accounting and reporting requirements in the non-profit sector is an asset.
  • Familiarity with donor and project-based financial reporting is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the issues and barriers facing 2SLGBTQI communities is an asset.

Abilities & Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; French is an asset.
