D.M. Wills Associates Limited is in search of a Project Designer to join our Structural (Bridge) Engineering Team. The ideal candidate will have a background in bridge engineering design.

As a member of our Structural (Bridge) Engineering Team, this role will focus on the technical aspects of project delivery. We are looking for someone who thrives on tackling technical challenges and keeps up with advancements in technology and software tools.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce structural drawings using AutoCAD; creating plans, profiles, design quantities and keeping current on the latest design tools and aids.
  • Develop and maintain drawing sets through all project phases
  • Coordinate drawing revisions, version control, and drawing register management
  • Interpret engineering sketches, marked-up drawings, and technical direction to produce accurate CAD deliverables
  • Participate in internal drawing reviews and incorporate engineer markups promptly and accurately
  • Assist structural engineers in preparing design calculations to support design decisions.
  • Develop standard details and drawing templates to support project efficiency.
  • Preparing and checking contract tender item quantities.
  • Interpreting and implementing standards from regulatory bodies.
  • Completing engineering field reviews on occasion.

 

Significant Qualifications / Experience

  • Completion of a college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience. 
  • Proficient with AutoCAD:  Civil 3D and Revit Structure experience is a strong asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience on infrastructure project types such as bridges, culverts and retaining structures. Experience with MTO design is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CSA and OPSS/MTO standards is advantageous
  • General knowledge of various design standards and requirements, such as OPSS and OPSD
  • Working knowledge of structural systems — concrete, steel, timber, and masonry
  • Well developed computer and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, and time management.
  • General knowledge of Ontario Health and Safety Act.
